NEW YORK - Canada's Ivanhoe Energy Inc. said yesterday Japan's INPEX Holdings Inc. will join it in a venture that is considering bidding on a heavy oil field in northern Iraq.
Ivanhoe signed a memorandum of understanding with the Iraqi Ministry of Oil to evaluate the Qaiyarah oil field in northern Iraq in October, 2004. The field is near, but not in, the largely autonomous Kurdistan region, the company said.
"It's important to have credibility in the bidding process," Ivanhoe co-chairman Robert Abboud said in an interview.

Ivanhoe said it has received approval from the oil ministry for INPEX's participation.
