Series of explosions heard in Baghdad
Source: Reuters

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - A wave of up to 15 explosions resounded in the Iraqi capital Baghdad before dawn on Tuesday, apparently coming from the city's outskirts.

A U.S. military spokesman said he was not aware of any operation taking place at the time.

The blasts sounded like mortar shells or artillery.

While explosions often echo across the city, it is rare for so many to be heard in the early hours of the morning.

U.S. and Iraqi forces are in the third month of a major security crackdown in Baghdad aimed at halting the country's spiral toward all-out sectarian civil war.

4. God I hope the insurgents didn't use the chart of our military
positions that Bush made public during his speech in Grand Rapids. :(

He did let everyone know our troop locations.

God help us all. :(

8. I wrote a letter about that -
to 3/2 - that you better never let that happen again - kind of thing.

It is a good comment on things - why are we writting letters to those commanders - why is that??

Are they stupid or something?

Yeah I saw that at the "prez's" conference.

I thought - well, why didn't you guys just fax the mortar grids- ya bastarads.

Good post!!

9. Another poster yesterday told me that LBJ used to do the same
thing. (ick, shades of VietNam again) So just cause LBJ did it doesn't make it right or smart. And how dare they (this admin and the conservatives/repubs) say that a withdrawal time table would be giving our military plans to the enemy - how much more detailed are the ariel maps/charts with troop locations?

I hate the thugs destroying my nation and promoting their war.

:(

:grr:

10. If I was a bad guy - I could probably put enough mortars on a
position - from that map - to kill a lot of kids.

It is more serious than you think. It is an Geraldo moment to the third power.

And it came from our president!!!!

It is serious.

12. No they don't.
But I saw that map -

I know where a few of the CPs were and its been 72 + hours.

Pretty accurate map. Better than "Geraldo's" sand drawings - I'll tell you that.

Person that would do that SHOULD be held on at least an article 15 -

Don't you think?? Stupidity like that kills.

21. Iraq: Car bombs near Iranian Embassy
BAGHDAD (AP) Two car bombs exploded near the Iranian Embassy in Baghdad on Tuesday, police said, and a Sunni Arab insurgent group claimed responsibility for a similar attack the day before.

Tuesday's two car bombs exploded within two minutes of each other at about 10 a.m. in a public parking lot located about 150 yards from the front of the Iranian Embassy, wounding six civilians but causing no damage to the embassy or its guards, a police officer said on condition of anonymity out of concern for his own security.

On Monday, two parked car bombs exploded outside the embassy in Karradah Mariam, an area of Baghdad that is about 200 yards from the heavily guarded Green Zone, where the Iraqi government and the U.S. and British embassies operate. One bomb exploded near the same public parking lot at about noon, killing one civilian and wounding another. At 4:30 p.m., the other parked car bomb exploded close to a police patrol near the Iranian Embassy, killing one civilian and wounding two officers, police said.

On Tuesday, the prominent Iraqi Sunni insurgent group Islamic Ansar al-Sunnah issued a statement on its Web site claiming responsibility for Monday's bombing near the parking lot.

24. Yeah, borders on obsessive, you might say.
I have a feeling there is a story there, but I don't expect we will be told. Ordinarily, blowing up in a parking lot isn't what your average jihadi would be aiming for, I would think. And the Iranian embassy too, what's up with that? Maybe somebody is planting bombs in the cars?

26. Car bombs explode near Iran Embassy in Baghdad
Two car bombs exploded in a parking lot in front of the Iranian Embassy in Baghdad on Tuesday, wounding four people, a day after two bombs exploded in the same area, police said.

One person was killed and six wounded in Monday's bombings. The embassy, in Baghdad's Salhiya neighborhood, was not damaged. An Iraqi militant group, Ansar al-Sunna, claimed responsibility for Monday's attack in a statement posted on a Web site used by insurgents in Iraq. Ansar al-Sunna is a Sunni Muslim militant group that has claimed several abductions and killings since the March 2003 US-led invasion of Iraq. US officials accuse Iranians of fuelling Iraq's sectarian conflict by supplying weapons and training to Shi'ite militias. Relations between Iraq and Iran have also cooled over the continued detention by US forces in Iraq of five Iranians accused of being intelligence agents.
