Vice President speaks out on Iraq(attacks Reid, and Reid responds)
Source: AP

WASHINGTON - Vice President Dick Cheney accused Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (news, bio, voting record) on Tuesday of pursuing a defeatest strategy in Iraq to win votes in the next election — a charge Reid said did not warrant a response.

The two sparred hours after President Bush said he will veto the latest war spending bill taking shape in Congress, which includes a timetable for withdrawing from Iraq.

Cheney, after attending the weekly Republican policy lunch on Capitol Hill, lashed out at Reid. "Some Democratic leaders seem to believe that blind opposition to the new strategy in Iraq is good politics," Cheney said. "Sen. Reid himself has said that the war in Iraq will bring his party more seats in the next election.

"It is cynical to declare that the war is lost because you believe it gives you political advantage," Cheney said.

Reid, D-Nev., dismissed Cheney's remarks later to reporters, but not before getting in his own dig at the vice president.

"I'm not going to get into a name calling match with the administration's chief attack dog," Reid said.

But I just caught Kennedy on CSPAN and he really let Cheney have it.

Then after he makes a few GOP talking points, he slinks away until they need him again.

5. A happy confluence
It's the right thing to do, and it garners a political advantage because it's what over 60% of the populace believes. Win-win, I believe it's called.

And, just for the record, Sen. Reid's statement was conditional, not absolute: The war is lost if we keep following the Bush/Cheney scheme. There's another, far better outcome available to us, but we have to dump Bush.

4. Does Darth Cheney have any idea how irrelevant he is?
I guess that being surrounded by only other neocons and getting his news from Fox has him as isolated as Chimpy is.

7. Reid gave Cheney another military deferment
Edited on Tue Apr-24-07 02:41 PM by SpiralHawk
So let's see now...

republicon Chickenhawk Cheney got five (5) record-breaking military deferments so he could sleaze out of serving in the military for even five minutes...

And now he's shooting his mouth off about war like he thinks he is Commander AWOL or something...

Reid was so kind to give Cheney a sixth deferment.

Since the record makes it clear: Cheney is a big-mouth bully who runs when the real fight begins.

11. Ha! As reported on CNN...
The Democrats say, with Cheney's public support in the low digits, what he says regarding the Iraq war.

They are right, the public intensely dislike Cheney and anything he says is going to viewed through that public lens.

WTG Senator Reid re "the administration's chief attack dog"! An "attack dog" who has been rendered fang-less, imo.
