Bin Laden overseeing Iraq, Afghanistan ops: Taliban
Source: Reuters

DUBAI (Reuters) - Al Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden is orchestrating militants' operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, a senior commander of Afghan Islamist group Taliban said in remarks broadcast on Wednesday.

Bin Laden has not made any video statements for many months raising speculation that he might have died.

"He is drawing plans in Iraq and Afghanistan ... Praise God he is alive," Mullah Dadullah told Al Jazeera television.

In September, a French newspaper quoted French foreign intelligence service as saying the Saudi intelligence were convinced bin Laden had died of typhoid in Pakistan in August.

Dadullah said bin Laden ordered the attack on February 27 at the U.S. Bagram base during a visit by U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney to Afghanistan.

6. I guess Bin Laden can walk through walls
"Dadullah said bin Laden ordered the attack on February 27 at the U.S. Bagram base during a visit by U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney to Afghanistan.

"Do you remember the martyrdom operation inside the Bagram base which targeted a senior American official ... this operation was the result of blessed plans put by him," Dadullah said. Jazeera said the U.S. official Dadullah was referring to was Cheney.

"He (bin Laden) guided us through it," he said, adding that no Afghan would have been able to penetrate the base if it was not for the world's most wanted militant."
...
Dadullah did not give further details about the role bin Laden was playing in operations in the two countries where the United States deploys troops.
---------------------------------

I think it is more likely that the local people could perpetrate this attack. I don't know what a mystery man in a cave could add. Unless, of course, Bin Laden is particularly apprised of Cheney's movments, for some reason.

7. Taliban: Bin Laden Planned Cheney Attack
Source: Breitbart.com/AP

A top Taliban commander said al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden was behind the February attack outside the U.S. military base in Bagram, Afghanistan, during the visit there by Vice President Dick Cheney, according to an interview aired Wednesday on Al-Jazeera.

Bin Laden planned and supervised the attack that killed 23 people outside the big U.S. base at Bagram during Cheney's visit, said Mullah Dadullah, the Taliban's main military commander in southern Afghanistan who has had close associations with al-Qaida.

"You may remember the martyr operation inside the Bagram base, which targeted a senior U.S. official. ... That operation was the result of his wise planning. He (bin Laden) planned that operation and guided us through it. The operation was a success," Dadullah told Al-Jazeera.

He did not say how he knew that bin Laden planned the attack, and it was not immediately clear when the interview took place.

14. Really? So are they using BlackBerrys on the RNC server?
It would be challenging for him to do this with the most high-tech communication system. Is he using smoke signals? Messages in a bottle? Puh-leeze.

He is dead and has been for a while. I believe he died in the Pakistan earthquake a few years ago. They say that it's been months since a video but it was right before the 2004 presidential election that we last saw him. Everything since then has been audio and that is way suspicious. The CIA authenticated it? The CIA are the people who would be faking it so that's hardly a verification.

16. Taliban: Bin Laden planned Cheney attack

Source: AP

CAIRO, Egypt - A top Taliban commander said al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden was behind the February attack outside the U.S. military base in Bagram, Afghanistan, during the visit there by Vice President Dick Cheney, according to an interview shown Wednesday by Arab broadcaster Al-Jazeera.

Bin Laden planned and supervised the attack that killed 23 people outside the base during Cheney's visit, said Mullah Dadullah, the Taliban's main military commander in southern Afghanistan who has had close associations with al-Qaida.

He did not say how he knew that bin Laden planned the attack, and it was not immediately clear when the interview took place.

Deputy White House press secretary Dana Perino said it was "an interesting claim but ... I haven't seen any intelligence that would support that."

Give me a break. They always bring up Bin Laden's name
when things are about to blow, or when they need to win
an election. The blood clot trick isn't working.

19. For his own safety, I think Cheney should RESIGN IMMEDIATELY
and go into hiding, never to be seen or heard from again. Unless, of course, Congress needs to chat with him about his crimes.

It's a sacrifice, yes, but one we must make as Americans for his safety.

Build up that sympathy vote for Darth and this administration's ME policies.

Very odd timing for them to admit this....when's OBL going to do a tape admitting that he hates George Bush for being smart enough to thwart his plan for the ME?

Edited on Wed Apr-25-07 05:38 PM by DearAbby
I mean, I don't recall Cheney's trip to Afghanistan was planned...or publicized, correct me if I am wrong, wasn't this an unscheduled stop?

Edit: the more I think about this...They may be responsible for the attack that day, but they had no idea Cheney would have been there...recall he and his party was 3 miles from the explosion...if this is the same event I am thinking of...They sure are inept, to wait till their target was safely 3 miles away to detonate...
