"WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A U.S. congressional report on Sept. 11 failures by the FBI (news - web sites) and CIA (news - web sites) will be released this week, but a section on whether there was any Saudi support for the hijackers will remain classified, government sources said on Tuesday.



The report to be released on Thursday stems from last year's joint inquiry by the House and Senate intelligence committees that found the spy agencies missed chances to track or share information that could have shed light on the Sept. 11 plot.


It comes as U.S. intelligence agencies are meeting mixed reviews. A controversy has erupted over pre-war intelligence on Iraq (news - web sites)'s weapons of mass destruction and whether the White House hyped it to gather support for war, as no such weapons have been found.


On the other hand, intelligence agencies have helped capture some al Qaeda leaders, blamed for Sept. 11, and top Iraqi officials.


The 900-page report is mainly a compilation of information released during public hearings last year, with more detail...."

Why keep it classified?

addressing Saudi support but won't release it? What conclusions do they think will be drawn from that? Screwballs.

As to why, the spin will be about how the Saudis are "faithful partners in the War On Terror. But the truth, I suspect, is that some investigative reporting (yeah, I know) might reveal business connections between the US president and Saudis who aided the 911 highjackers.

This is going to be one of the most absurdly sanitized documents ever created. It will be useless. It will be meaningless. It exists only to save Bush's skin and keep the radical wing of the GOP in power indefinitely.

What we needed was something of the caliber of the Tower Commission Report -- but maybe the fact that John Tower eventually perished in a small airplane crash a la Paul Wellstone may have given its members pause....

this may serve to increase that momentum. People may connect the lies, deception and stonewalling about the 9/11 report with the lies, deception, and stonewalling about, well...everything else.

Unless we invade Syria or Iran in the meantime.

we don't even mention them when they kill american citizens (Rachel) why would we mention their involvement in 9/11? silly rabbit!

if there was any Israeli connection to the Sept. 11th attacks. Probably the only country in the world completely immune to the slightest questioning. Oh, I can hear the blind supporters now, saying "Well that's because there was no involvement" - as if they have this inside scoop that nobody else has on the issue (but really they no nothing more than anyone else).

whatever happened to the student spy ring anyway? Does anyone know? Odd how that issue suddenly disappeared and if you dared press the subject you get targeted as anti-semite.
