Four US soldiers killed near Baghdad, Mosul
Four US soldiers killed near Baghdad, Mosul
22-07-2003, 10:53

Iraq's daily barrage of attacks killed four more American soldiers on Tuesday. In one incident, three U.S. soldiers were killed in an attack near the northern city of Mosul, Al Jazeera reported.

Elsewhere, a US soldier was killed and another injured on Tuesday in an ambush along a dangerous road in the "Sunni Triangle" north of the capital Baghdad, the US military reported.

The US Central Command in Tampa, Florida, said the attackers used rocket-propelled grenades and small arms in the attack staged along the road between Balad, some 80 kilometers north of Baghdad, and Ramadi, about 100 kilometers west of the capital, according to AP.

3. It sounds like the one incident
hasn't been reported in U.S. media. BTW, isn't Mosul where Saddam's sons were killed?

4. Yes to the Mosul question. . .

I'm fairly certain that the three soldiers were killed in the same shootout that got Saddam's sons.

2. Wonder what will get top billing in the news: Saddam's sons or this
Will be interesting to see.

The tragedy continues despite one victory (the disposal of Saddam's sons).

7. Abu Dhabi TV is saying THREE soldiers killed . . .
3 US soldiers, 4 Iraqis killed, two of them were Saddam's sons

Abu Dhabi TV

7/23/03: 11:30 a.m. Eastern Time

Abu Dhabi TV reported live from Mosul eyewitness accounts about a major US military operation targeting a house in the northern Iraqi city.

Eyewitnesses said that US helicopters and soldiers attacked a house, killing four Iraqis there and arresting the owner, who is a head of a major Iraqi tribe.

It was believed that the two sons of the former Iraqi President, Udai and Quossai, were in the house. They were killed during the four-hour battle, in which 200 US soldiers participated, according to US sources.

8. $15 million apiece for the bounty on U & Q
Edited on Tue Jul-22-03 04:52 PM by SoCalDem
but a pittance for the families of the dead soldiers.. not a very good trade-off.

Frankly, I woulsn't mind if Q & U were still alive if it meant those 4 dead soldiers were as well..

11. This is "compassionate conservatism" to its fulllest...
Send a large military force into a sovereign country, launch an expensive bombing campaign that kills thousands, ignore those forced to serve in 110 degree heat...
