Report: McGreevey Considering Episcopal Priesthood
Source: CBS - Philly

(AP) NEWARK, N.J. James E. McGreevey, the nation's first openly gay governor, has become an Episcopalian and wants to become a priest in that faith, according to a published report.

The former governor, who was raised as a Roman Catholic, was officially received into the Episcopal religion on Sunday at St. Bartholomew's Church in Manhattan, said the Rev. Kevin Bean, vicar at St. Bartholomew.

McGreevey has entered the church's "discernment" phase that usually precedes any seminary work, Bean told The Star-Ledger of Newark in a report posted Wednesday on its Web site.
....
McGreevey has been accepted to study at the General Theological Seminary in New York, the oldest of the Episcopal church, school spokesman Bruce Parker said Wednesday. Parker, however, did not know if the former governor wanted to become a priest.

4. First,
get what I said right. I didn't say that I had no sympathy for him, just that I had more for his ex-wife. She tried support his career and then finds out that her whole marriage has been a sham. If he wants to be gay, fine just don't ruin someone else's life doing it.

7. Actually you don't
I wasn't talking about choosing to be gay. I was talking about how he choose to get married and is only now choosing to reveal his orientation when he could have done at anytime before he got married.

8. Just an educated guess
Lots and LOTS of people, especially those who grew up in very religious households, think/hope/pray that if they get married and live "right" that their homosexual thoughts and feelings will go away. That being said, I was never thrilled with him as a governor.

9. I understand but
he could at least have told her he was bi before getting married. If he couldn't have at least said that then he shouldn't have married her. He basically told her he was committed to their marriage when he knew he wasn't.

6. my humble apologies for the little/no sympathy gaffe
However, many people don't come to a full realization of their sexual orientation until later in their life, or try to bury their sexual orientation by marrying an opposite-sex partner. I know several people who have gone through this (no, I don't know McGreevy personally) and it's not easy on anybody.

10. As a New Jerseyan I have no sympathy for him
The real reason he had to resign was several different corruption scandals. The most sensational was nominating his lover to be head of our homeland security - even though he was unqualified.

I did phonebanking and had people in 2005 and 2006 complaining about corruption. There were people still mad at McGreevey who needed to be convinced to vote for Corzine and Menendez. (Why do you think Kean Jr ran mostly on - Menendez is corrupt.)

He also came out with a book that likely was painful to his wife.

14. And his wife's book is no less painful to him
Why do you think the judge in their divorce case basically told both of them to grow up?

NEWARK, May 2 (AP) — James E. McGreevey, who resigned as New Jersey governor in 2004 after saying that he had had an extramarital affair with a man, has become an Episcopalian and wants to be ordained as a priest in that faith, according to a published report.

The former governor, who was raised as a Roman Catholic, was officially received into the Episcopal faith on Sunday at St. Bartholomew’s Church in Manhattan, said the Rev. Kevin D. Bean, the church’s vicar.

Mr. McGreevey has entered the church’s “discernment” phase, which usually precedes any seminary work, Father Bean told The Star-Ledger of Newark in a report posted Wednesday on its Web site.

Good match.....Christ, conceived out of wedlock, born from a virgin, who never married, hung around 12 men, who broke Old Testament Law by healing on the Sabbath, and who would be stoned today for advocating love and peace in this time of war and dispair is indeed a good role model for James McGreevey.
