GOP convention papers ordered opened
Source: Associated Press

The city cannot prevent the public from seeing documents describing intelligence that police gathered to help them create policies for arrests at the 2004 Republican National Convention, a judge said Friday.

U.S. Magistrate Judge James C. Francis IV made the ruling regarding documents about information the New York Police Department says it used.

The city had contended that the documents should remain confidential, saying opening them would jeopardize the city's rights to a fair trial. Lawsuits allege that the city violated constitutional rights when it arrested more than 1,800 people at the convention.

The judge stayed his ruling for 10 days. Peter Farrell, a city lawyer, said the city is considering an appeal.

6. Since When Does A CITY Have Constitutional Rights?
City officials, maybe--but this is collective, is it not?

13. Perpetrators are often against the introduction of damning evidence
After all, if it weren't for all those eyewitnesses, DNA evidence, physical evidence, fingerprints and so forth, there's no way that guy would have ever been found guilty of the crime he was accused of. Likewise, New York City would like to exclude all the evidence of its conniving and culpability in denying the citizens their rights, because after all, that would tend to make them look guilty of denying the citizens of their rights. Very prejudicial, indeed.

Eat it, Bloomberg. You're wrong and you know it.

5. It would jeopardize the city's rights to a fair trial? If they have that attitude...
then I don't have any sympathy for them!!

The rights of the people come before the rights of some god damn ass entity.

Is Bloomberg the one advocating this piece of crap?

8. My exact thought. This must be covering up a Bloomberg promise
to the RNC - a promise probably included in an agreement for RNC when they picked NY for the convention.

When is the secrecy going to stop?

The WH has secrets.
The Justice Dept has secrets.
The Pentagon has secrets.
The cities have secrets.

Well, it's easier to track down who agreed to secrecy in this case - which obviously involves the RNC.
