*UN Envoy in Iraq calls for end to U.S. occupation*
"22 July – The top United Nations envoy for Iraq and a member of the newly established Iraqi Governing Council both called today for a speedy end to the United States military occupation and the full restoration of the country’s sovereignty.

“There will need to be a clear timetable, laid out as soon as possible, for the earliest possible restoration of sovereignty,” Secretary-General Kofi Annan’s Special Representative, Sergio Vieira de Mello, told an open session of the 15-member body as he presented Mr. Annan’s latest report on Iraq. “I have made this point before but it bears repetition. Iraqis need to know that the current state of affairs will come to an end soon. They need to know that stability will return and that the occupation will end.

1. Does this mean that de Mello is a "Ba'athist Saddam Supporter"?
I would never have guessed.

MY GOD, THEY'RE EVERYWHERE!

2. He is not going to let the U.N. in there
He does not care what they say. If it was put to Bush that he turn over control to Iraq, pull out U.S. forces, remove Bremmer or there will be no international help with peace keeping or humanitarian aid> A reversal of the sanction lifting because of his uncooperative attitude etc ( hit him in the oil/money area), speed up the timetable for temporary lifting of the sanctions, he would comply. But comply only after blaming the French for being anti-American.

UNFPA delivers emergency medical supplies to Baghdad hospitals

<snip...>
In an effort to restore and support reproductive health services in Iraq, a new shipment of emergency reproductive health supplies, intended to meet the urgent needs of Iraqi women, was delivered by UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund, to key maternity hospitals and primary healthcare centres in Baghdad.

A total of 648 boxes containing different types of reproductive health products were delivered to the five general health directorates that oversee maternity hospitals and primary healthcare centres in Baghdad and surrounding areas. The shipment included much needed emergency obstetric care supplies, clean delivery equipment, contraceptives, syringes, essential drugs and other medical supplies. The shipment was sent to Iraq by the UNFPA office in Iran.

The supplies were distributed among healthcare centres by UNFPA and the Iraqi Ministry of Health. Priority was given to healthcare facilities serving densely populated areas, those that were directly affected by the war, and others located in areas in need of immediate support. Additional UNFPA shipments of reproductive health supplies are expected to arrive in Baghdad soon.

5. Are these people naive --
Do they really think that Bush invaded Iraq to liberate it from Saddam or something. We're not leaving -- we want the oil, the control of the oil and the strategic position for the control of the mideast and as a staging area for future fun takeovers. These people need to read the manifestos coming out of PNAC -- we're in for world domination. Now if they behave themselves we might let them have a nice puppet government.
