NATO Convoy Ambused in Afghanistan

By NOOR KHAN
Tuesday, May 8, 2007; 7:30 AM

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan -- Suspected Taliban militants ambushed
a NATO convoy in southern Afghanistan early Tuesday, and a
gunshot victim said soldiers fleeing the scene shot him and killed
a man in a bakery.

Cordon Leader Peter Earling, a spokesman for NATO's International
Security Assistance Force in Kandahar, said militants ambushed
the convoy around 1 a.m. in Kandahar city, the Taliban's former
stronghold.

A NATO statement said that "initial reports indicate that there
may have been civilian casualties," but neither the statement nor
Earling specified if the casualties were caused by gunfire from
the militants or NATO soldiers.

Earling said a local worker was wounded and that an investigation
was under way.

1. It's to be expected.
The US has not exactly been opening up American Fan clubs in Afghanistan lately. They have acted like the proverbial Bull in the China Shop, destroying everything in its path.

Driving with their Hum Vee's, right into rush hour traffic, mowing down civilians and flattening local cars. Just unbelievable. I've seen photos, and they are not to be believed.

Small wonder there's a little bit of hostility.

And it's too bad because the NATO troops are there under much more benevolent purposes.....Yes?
