DeLay: FBI ‘running amok’
Edited on Wed May-09-07 01:22 AM by maddezmom
Source: The Hill

By Alexander Bolton
May 09, 2007
Former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-Texas) is calling on the Justice Department either to drop its investigation of his wife and former political associates or else to bring charges quickly.

DeLay said he has given the FBI documents exonerating his wife, but an associate of the former lawmaker said that agents have followed up with a fresh round of subpoenas.

The inquiry appears to be focused on determining whether DeLay’s wife, Christine, earned her pay from two organizations controlled by Ed Buckham, a lobbyist once closely affiliated with the former Republican leader, according to sources interviewed by federal investigators. Several former employees of the groups have received subpoenas for documents, some in the past few weeks.

DeLay told The Hill that he gave the FBI documents and computer records proving his wife was a legitimate employee of ARMPAC, a fundraising committee, and Alexander Strategy Group, a lobbying firm once controlled by Buckham.

~snip~

“They’re not going after me,” DeLay said of the FBI. “They’re going after other people and they’re questioning the other people about whether they know anything I may have done. And we’ve given them all the records and that’s the problem they’re having.”

1. That's probably what Al Capone said too!
Criminals just hate it when law enforcement starts mucking around with their operations.

2. I'm salivating at the thought of DeLay going down one way or the other.
He has got to be involved given his history.

3. so am I and looks like someone is singing
One source familiar with the investigation said federal officials have given immunity to at least one senior member of DeLay’s political circle who may now be cooperating with investigators. Former associates of the majority leader say investigators are apparently attempting to indict DeLay for corruption by proving that Buckham sought to influence him with unearned payments to his wife.

That's right Tom! You answer oen group of subpoenas and those responses generate another group of subpoenas, and another and another! That's the way it works, Bud! Get over it and get your butt down to your local Kinkos and start copying!

6. I'm glad Delay squawked. It's the first sign we've had of what might really be going on
with the FBI. I am VERY DISTRUSTFUL of them, considering who their bosses are, and considering how little we can trust of what reaches us through the war profiteering corporate monopoly newsstream. Is this recent FBI activity on Bushite corruption cover for Gonzales, for instance? Before, they were suppressing prosecution of Bushites. Are they now doing the opposite--putting on a show that looks good but will come to nothing?

Those sorts of thoughts.

But Delay squealing like a stuck pig that the FBI is "running amok" hints in a different direction--that the honest FBI agents, those who are left after the Bushite purges, and maybe have been itching to go after these SOBs, now feel free to do their jobs, due to the Democrats now being in charge in Congress and pursuing investigations of Gonzales and others. I would like to think that this is true. I'm still not sure. When you consider the truly massive crime that has taken place--the parts we know about, and the parts we can surmise--including pervasive spying and blackmail, the use of torture for profit and for covering up crimes and money trails (by torturing then snuffing potential whistleblowers) (--I mean, why CAN'T we have open trials of Guantanamo and other detainees?)--the billions of dollars missing in Iraq, the utter filthy boondoggle that the federal government has become, "trade secret" vote counting by rightwing Bushite corporations and the extensive corruption connected to those contracts, the scandal emerging in Colombia (the top echelons of the Uribe government--upon whom the Bush Junta has larded billions of our tax dollars) involved in drug trafficking, mass murder and plots to assassinate the leftist leaders of other South American countries, and now yet another Bushite scandal at the World Bank, and so much more--scandalous malfeasance and profiteering in FEMA, the EPA, the FDA, every agency you look at, dirtbags in charge of EVERYTHING, our country in ruins, really--it is difficult to believe that anyone in federal employ can do, or is willing to do, their jobs on behalf of the public.

But people are people. They don't like being propagandized and lied to, and they don't like being shoved around. And there have been a lot of signals in the military, for instance, that rebellion against this Junta is real, and is coming especially from people whose ideals and whose sense of self-respect have been trampled on.

And you can be pretty sure that if Tom Delay thinks the FBI is "running amok," the FBI is in truth doing what it should have been doing all along--investigating, indicting and convicting these criminals. Caveat: unless he is still doing "talking points" for Rove, and this is one of them (meant as cover for Rove and Gonzo on their US Attorney crimes)--which is a possibility. Are we seeing orchestrated "justice," or is it real? Or semi-orchestrated (going after fall guys, bag holders, people who, for one reason or another, have been "kicked off the island")?

It is truly hard to tell, with this regime and its corporate media protectors. The rot, and the manipulation of the newsstream, are profound. The world has not seen anything like it since Stalinist Russia. THAT tyranny was nearly impenetrable. This one is a little more porous and also more subtle (for instance, the corporate news monopolies parading as a "free press"). But it may be all the more lethal because of its subtleties. Bush/Cheney may go. We still have AP and brethren, and Diebold/ES&S. Isn't it odd that, with 75% of the American people opposing the Iraq war and wanting it ended, that the "strongest" Democratic presidential candidate is the one who has been by far the worst on war issues? Or that the People, angry as they are about the war, could only achieve a 50/50 Congress, which, despite all the rhetoric and resolutions, is going to FUND THE WAR FOR ANOTHER YEAR? FUND the war. Not stop the war. FUND the war.

But more than this, what Congress is NOT talking about tells you just how unrepresentative they are, despite what they may say. Impeachment (Bush/Cheney's crimes cry out for it--chief among them, their naked assault on the Constitution). "Off the table." CUTTING the military budget (no more wars of choice!). Unthinkable. Rescinding the Patriot Act. Restoring civil and human rights. (Are these people Democrats or not?) Throwing all the corporate lobbyists out of Washington. Har, har. Removing the Bushite-controlled "trade secret" code from our election system. This utterly mind-boggling corporate privatization of vote counting has the full support of the Democratic Party leadership, who are doing their best to stop the American people from finding out about it.

So, who knows, really? Maybe this FBI display of "justice" for Bushite criminals is part of a long term Corporate Ruler scenario. Like throwing meat to the dogs. Keep us occupied. Keep us thinking that things are "improving." And nothing ever does.

17. I expect Delay's current outrage is because he thought the case was being dropped
Delay thought the system was gamed in his favor and doesn't understand all this new fuss one bit.

12. That's opposed the the continuous investigation of Clinton in the 90's?
The republicons thought it was OK for the non-stop investigations of Clinton until they realize the only way they could get him was get him a blow job. But when their corruption is questioned, they cry foul.

The twisted logic used by those in the reich wing is amazing.

Considering how many GOP miscreants are currently being exposed, it would seem likely the FBI has been slow to investigate for some time. Quite a backlog of crooked pols.

24. We seriously need to speed up the justice system so he can have his
trial and go to prison.

Everytime I see him spouting off the only questions I can ask is "why isn't he in prison yet".

It's that it takes over a year to bring these guys to their court date.

As far as him giving the FBI ultimatims about who they investigate, it sounds like someone who believes he's above the law. Which is what got him in trouble in the first place.
