Police raid G8 'terror attackers'

BERLIN, Germany (Reuters) -- German authorities launched raids is six German states on Wednesday on concerns left-wing radicals were planning attacks to disrupt a Group of Eight (G8) summit in the Baltic resort of Heiligendamm next month, prosecutors said.

The prosecutor's office said in a statement that some 900 security officials were searching 40 sites in six northern German states on suspicions left-wing militants had formed a "terrorist organization" to target the G8 meeting.

"We suspect those targeted, who belong to the militant extreme-left scene, of founding a terrorist organization or being a member of such an organization, that is planning arson attacks and other actions to severely disrupt or prevent the early-summer G8 summit in Heiligendamm from taking place," the office said.

there are too many 'Autonom' punks, who come to these things and start fires, burn cars, throw rocks, smash windows. these are the same people who traveled to Copenhagen when they closed a squatters building that had been left alone by Police and the local government for over 10 years.

These anarchists are out to cause trouble and do everything they can to do just that.

THAT SAID...

I doubt these protesters can be categorised 'terrorists' in any sense of the word. (Unless you are using the Bush&Co's new world order/post 9-11 definition playbook.) When the G8 shows up here in Munich, things don't tend to get out of hand, but the protests are loud and filled to the max. I have more of a problem with the police from other cities coming here and hassling anyone who looks mildly 'protester-like'

Not only that, but security is normally so tight, you can't get within 500 yards of where these guys are, let alone close enough to do any damage.

There was a thing I heard of when I first moved here organized by these anarchist punks called "Chaos tag" (Chaos Day) there was a website for it, and it was announced a few years ago that everyone would be traveling to Munich for this 'annual event' . Thing is, nothing happened. They were stopping rowdies at the train station and if they didn't live here, or have family or any real justifiable reason to be here, they got sent right back home.

Later, a friend of the wife came by and was all nervous... "Did you hear? Chaos Day is supposed to be today here in Munich!"

I said "Chaos What?"

"Chaos day"

"What day?"

"CHAOS DAY!!" she shouted frustratedly..

Me pretending to be Bender from futurama continued... "What what...?"

I said, "Yeah... wake me up when something happens." nothing ever did.

Im all for a rowdy and boisterous demonstration, but when the police act like pricks and the anarchists start to agitate, everyone loses. The police should be looking to curb the troublemakers, and let the protesters protest, like they should be allowed to.
