Romney Ad Touts Plan to Expand Military
Source: Guardian Unlimited

Republican presidential contender Mitt Romney is touting his proposal to expand U.S. military power in the latest commercial aimed at boosting his name identification....

``America must remain the world's military superpower,'' Romney adds. ``If we lock our arms together, we can forge the political will to rebuild our military might.''

The candidate has proposed expanding the military by 100,000 troops and committing 4 percent of the nation's gross domestic product to military spending.

Hey Mitten-fuhrer - we need LESS troops, not more! Perhaps if we only had a fraction of our current military, we wouldn't feel so emboldened to attack other countries that don't pose a serious threat to us.

1. Dems, Too
Sadly, I believe that all the Democratic candidates for president except Kucinich (maybe Gravel) are also in favor of expanding the size of the military.

12. Would you prefer more "contractors?"
This war is being fought all too often by the wrong people.
  • The National Guard should not be there ("National" "Guard" which word don't you understand Mr. President?)
  • The Reserves should not be there. In many cases, these so-called "Reserves" are "Re-Serves," they've already served and now they're being required to serve again.
  • Blackwater (and their ilk) should not be there. If we're going to fight a war, let's fight it with our own troops.
Now, don't get me wrong. I've been against this war from the build-up; but, if we're going to send people to fight in foreign lands, let's send the right people.

15. There shouldn't be a war, period.
Even if you cut our military in half, it would still be enough to do its job, provided we don't scatter them all across the entire globe for this or that mission. We shouldn't be in Iraq, period.

13. I think 4% of GDP is our current military spending.
Once we get out of Iraq, we'll need to restore our military from the ruin of the last six years just to where we were in 2001. We need to recover before we can build.
