Bush would veto emerging House Iraq bill - spokesman
Source: Reuters

ABOARD AIR FORCE ONE, May 9 (Reuters) - U.S. President George W. Bush would veto an emerging House of Representatives bill which would include limits on funding for the Iraq war, White House spokesman Tony Snow said on Wednesday.

"There are restrictions on funding and there are also some of the spending items that were mentioned in the first veto message that are still in the bill," Snow told reporters aboard Air Force One as he flew with Bush to visit parts of Kansas devastated by tornadoes last week.

Asked whether Bush would veto the bill in its current form, Snow said: "Yes."

Bush vetoed a $124 billion war funding bill last week because it called for a phased withdrawal of combat troops from Iraq starting no later than Oct. 1.

While the Dems' game may not bring the troops home as fast as I'd like, they're really making him take some serious damage by vetoing all these bills.

14. Keep feeding him...
the same bill with timelines, benchmarks, stretchmarks...the whole 9 yards up to September and then say "game over"...The Spoiled Child refuses to support the troops with his vetoes and therefore, there will be no more extensions for the surge, no more funding...time for withdrawal...

4. At this point, the more Bush vetos the spending bill...
the more people see that he is the one depriving the troops--as he has all along. The pressure is on Bush, not the Congress. I have my doubts that he can stand too many more NOs before exploding like the madman he really is.

6. Things aren't going to change until the other Republicks start fearing for their jobs
there are still several months of pillaging to go in Iraq before the pukes decide to pull the plug. It is apparently not up to the majority party in both houses of congress.

Bush would veto Democrats' new Iraq bill

President Bush would veto a bill drafted by House Democratic leaders that would fund the Iraq war only into the summer months, his spokesman said Wednesday.

The Democrats' proposal would pay for the war through July, then give Congress the option of cutting off money after that if conditions do not improve. Bush requested more than $90 billion to fund the war through September.

"There are restrictions on funding and there are also some of the spending items that were mentioned in the first veto message that are still in the bill," White House press secretary Tony Snow said on Air Force One traveling with Bush.

Asked directly if Bush would veto the House bill in its current form, Snow said, "Yes."

11. Keep it up, Chimpy. If you veto enough bills, the funds WILL RUN OUT.
Then the war will be over and the troops will be brought home post haste.

Works for me.

18. Wait a minute--don't they already have enough funds thru July?
I'm sure I read earlier that the current funds wouldn't run out until July. So why do they need a bill to fund the war through July? Something doesn't add up here.

15. Take 'No' for an Answer
If Bush vetos yet another appropriations bill for the war -- then the Democrats, the majorty, should take 'no money for the troops' to be Bush's final answer.

They should then pass a strict funding bill only for redeployment of the troops out of Iraq.

The occupation of Iraq will finally be over.

16. +1 earthside
That's the only way to end the war - stop funding it. Worked for Vietnam. The congress is under no obligation to keep sending Bush new versions of war funding bills until they can come up with one he likes.
