Snow says death of Saddam sons helps economy
WASHINGTON (AFP)

The death of former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein's two sons helps the US economy by removing some uncertainty, Treasury Secretary John Snow said.

Snow was asked by a Fox Television reporter for his reaction to Wall Street's bounce after news of the deaths emerged.

"Well, I think anything that removes uncertainty about the course of progress in Iraq is positive, and that certainly removes some uncertainty," the US economic chief said.

"One more vestige, hopefully, of the Saddam regime is gone."

The aftermath of the Iraq war still weighed on US consumers' minds to some extent, Snow said. ---

If our economy is so fragile as to depend on the deaths of Saddam's sons, then we are in deep
do-do!

and that they want the public to go along with it. Yes, it caused an up day in the markets, but the markets are not the economy. Snow should go back and take Econ 101 again.

7. Anybody could make up shit like that
Perhaps they can "share" around Snow's job a little, get a different unemployed factory guy each day to do HIS job. Couldn't possibly do a worse job, probably do it better.

I give him another month or two before he "resigns"

36. Saddam's sons don't matter
Kobe Bryant doesn't matter
Jessica Lynch doesn't matter

The world is going to hell, and the Rove press misdirects our attentions to worthless nonsense.

The lie is that Saddam, and his sons, were somehow a threat to the US. They were washed up and impotent, and we wasted billions taking over their oil, instead of attending to our own troubles.

13. Yeah, IBM's recalling all its laid-off IT workers . . .
Edited on Tue Jul-22-03 05:27 PM by hatrack
. . . now that Uday and Qusay (according to a single-sourced CNN story) are dead.

Hear that hissing sound? It's rain - copious amounts of rain, falling across the parched states of Utah, Arizona, Nevada, Colorado and western Nebraska, filling reservoirs, quenching forest fires, blessing crops and bringing the economy back to life in dying small towns across the western United States. That rain is falling because Uday and Qusay (according to a single-sourced CNN story) are dead.

Hear that hum? It's the sound of factories springing to life across this big, broad, happy land of ours, now that Uday and Qusay (according to a single-sourced CNN story) are dead.

Hear that jingling sound? It's the sound of ringing cash registers, now that happy farmers, upbeat IBM IT workers and optimistic, freshly recalled factory employees are merrily spending money, because Uday and Qusay (according to a single-sourced CNN story) are dead.

What a bunch of STINKING FUCKING HORSESHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!

48. The GOP leadership is really sick to make profit statements based on
death or murder.

I'm still not sure what these sons are charged with? I've heard Wolfie say alleged beat this guy, alleged womenizer, alledged didn't pay his taxes... but I've seen more fact that Bush went AWOL, Bush/Cheney knew about 9/11, Bush had been abusing alcohol and drugs since 15 years old, Bush's wife Laura killed another human but got off scott free, Bush is usning an Executive Order to hold Presidential documents 12 years to cover-up the deads done by Reagan and Bush, The anthrax killer is an NSA agent assigned to kill Democrats...

Is anyone thinking in the U.S.? If we can go kill anyone in the world without evidence those same people will feel double justified to come kill us without cause.

I missed out on the part about the effect of deaths of small time dictators sons on the American economy. Darn. No wonder I can't understand the world today. Does this mean that I'll be getting that cost of living increase I haven't seen in 3 years, and my job is secure, and the university won't be raising it's tuition AGAIN? Well, I didn't really expect it, but delighted to know that stocks are happy.

(who in and of himself is scum) is "removed" the economy might just break out in roses??---ya' see, Snow, Georgie inspires no one and no one trusts his love affair with rich boys and everyone is afraid his rich boys will steal the money they invest in the market, and everyone feels they are going to get stuck with the bill while his rich buddies pay nothing. It's called "no confidence", Snow, my man...no confidence. As long as the cowpoke rides, the economy dies.

43. Is anyone really surprised?
The stock market is a casino influenced by consumer sentiment and opinion. It's a common tactic, even when nothing of note goes on in the world, to "talk up" the market merely by getting people to agree that better times are ahead for the economy. People would think it was good economic news that 70% of all plumbers ate Corn Flakes for breakfast if someone told them it was good news.

47. Technically, this one is not a lie ...
Consider:

> He said the gun battle that killed them took place when 200 American troops,
> supported by attack helicopters, stormed a villa in Mosul following a tip-off.
(Quoted from http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/3088991.stm)

Attack helicopters (several) = $$$$ ching!
HumVees (many) = $$$ ching!
RPGs (some) = $$$ ching!
Missile/s (one or more) = $$$ ching!
Bullets (shitloads) = $$ ching!
Troop training (~200) = $$$$ ching!
Press corps training (~500) = $ ching!
Bribe for tip-off (up to $15M) = $$$$ (handling fee) ching!

All of this money goes back into the American economy thus it is "good".

OK, most of the money came out of the pocket of American taxpayers ... so?
OK, all of the above goes into the pocket of Bush cronies ... so?

Did we tell a lie this time eh? Come on, did we? Bring 'em on!
Are you going to admit that we sometimes tell the truth now?
And if you agree we're telling the truth this time, how can you turn
around and accuse us of lying in the past?
Pah! You guys are anti-American to your rotten, doubting core!

(Sorry - appear to have been channelling Rove there for a minute ...)
