Bush Playfully Conducts Orchestra in Va.
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

Filed at 3:20 p.m. ET

JAMESTOWN, Va. (AP) -- JoAnn Falletta was doing what a conductor should -- concentrating on the orchestra in front of her. No wonder it took her a few seconds on Sunday to realize someone behind her was motioning for a try. President Bush.

''Smiling at me kind of devilishly,'' Falletta said.

She gave him her baton and stepped aside.

Gesturing exuberantly, the president led the orchestra during part of its performance of ''Stars and Stripes Forever.''

4. I guess Bush has moved on from his extreme sadness
after the Virginia Tech tragedy!

President Passes On Comedy At Correspondent’s Dinner

(April 22, 2007)—
Deferring to the tragedy at Virginia Tech, President Bush passed up any attempt to be funny at the White House Correspondents' Association dinner Saturday, instead leaving the comedy to impersonator Rich Little.

Mr. Bush said it was important for people in Washington "to learn to laugh" and that the ability for a nation to poke fun at its leaders is good for democracy.

"I was looking forward to doing a little poking myself but in light of this tragedy at Virginia Tech I decided not to be funny," he said.

6. "The musicians were impressed by how musical Bush was" - New York Times
"But all Bush was, surely, was a man standing in front of an orchestra, keeping time with his hands? How on earth does his unmistakable superiority to almost anyone else manifest itself? The art of the conductor is not a very well understood one, even by quite musical people. Certainly, it is such a demanding task to ensure that an orchestra plays all the notes in tune, at the right time, to balance the sound, and to keep them at the tempo requested by the composer... It is a sense of rightness, of a natural response to the music. What Bush had, supremely, was that sense of naturalness, and in something as complex as Stars and Stripes Forever, everything moved as it should, developing and growing with exact, considered intelligence. It is so extraordinary, and so unusual a skill that I doubt we will ever see anything to match it in our lifetimes." - Rush Limbaugh

Edited on Sun May-13-07 04:38 PM by Turbineguy
that shows he is not totally stupid and inept, people are impressed.

The standards have simply dropped to meet his level. Quite frankly I am delighted whenever I see him not make a total ass of himself. But then I like to have a guy who's President of United States who is smarter than me.

Of course you can trust Rush Limbaugh to embellish Bush's skill. He forgot to mention that the orchestra had never played or even practiced on musical instuments before and it was all the genius and energy flow from Bush that made the music happen. Or would that be a lie even too mendacious for Rush?

Probably hadn't a clue which end to tap or blow or bang on to make them go...but Bush got up there, and all of a sudden, it's the Stars and Stripes Forever!
:sarcasm:

Note: In the circus, S&SF is known as the Disaster March. If you hear the band start playing that, get out of there fast, because it's the code for "there's big trouble going down".

I was priveleged to meet JoAnn Falleta when she conducted the Billings Symphony Orchestra. Turned it into a whole different orchestra, she did. That woman has fire.

He can't see the difference between his childhood living room and the rest of the world. His confused parents apparently don't see there should be a difference, either. We are, after all, only here to admire them, such as they are, unconditionally, like servants whose passports they are holding.

29. Shades of Boris Yeltsin
Edited on Sun May-13-07 07:26 PM by tanyev
But the low spot - and the height of the Russian people's embarrassment with their president - came two years later. In August 1994, after a good lunch with Chancellor Kohl, President Yeltsin snatched the baton from the conductor of the Berlin police orchestra, and pretended to conduct them while blowing kisses to the crowd.
