With his top deputy going, will Gonzales be next?
Source: Seattle Times

WASHINGTON — Paul McNulty's resignation Monday from the Justice Department has invigorated key Democratic leaders calling for Attorney General Alberto Gonzales to leave as well.

McNulty, who as deputy attorney general held the No. 2 spot at Justice, announced his resignation amid the widening scandal over the firings of nine U.S. attorneys, including Seattle's John McKay.

His exit this summer will mark the fourth resignation since the U.S. attorneys affair became public earlier this year.

McNulty did not release a public statement about his resignation, nor did he say if it was tied to the attorney firings.

Will Gonzo hang on till the bow of the ship is fully underwater? If he was working in the private sector with similar issues occuring with staff under his supervision, he would have been fired a month ago. I thought the "Justice Department" stood for justice?

5. NObody--Need a Going Out of Business--Lost Our Lease Sign on Doors
Is this any way to run a country? Wouldn't impeachment be far more professional?

7. Scary thought--they're running it as they've apparently BEEN running it--
Mediocre Regent grads taking orders from the White House and bypassing Gonzales so he can maintain that "I don't know nuthin'" facade. In no way has it ground to a halt--the WH will push its illegal programs as much as it can.

9. Yes, but so many layers are being peeled away
it will be harder for them to push their criminal agenda without being exposed.

8. He has no honor
He also lacks integrity, what he does possess is complete loyalty to the man who gave him everything that he has had since becoming a judge in Texas.

One thing about Gonzo, he's as loyal as Goebbels was!

Maybe history will repeat itself, only with him alone!!!!

6. Cue Monica!
You have to wonder if all of the hearings/investigations would stop if Gonzo goes. I hope not...they still need to get Rove under oath and singing to try and save himself.

10. Is Monica Goodling still on paid leave? If she has not resigned and off
...public payroll, she needs to appear and testify....no taking the 5th.

11. I'm pretty sure she finally resigned but, she got immunity, she must testify
The immunity doesn't cover perjury, as is proper, and a judge ordered her to testify since she can no longer legitimately claim self-incrimination.

Believe me. Many of us are looking forward to it and hoping she doesn't just fall on her sword. Personally, I wasn't expecting McNulty to resign... or for Gonzales to publicly throw him under the bus.

16. He will NOT resign, nor will he be fired.
Imagine the hearings to confirm a new AG. Imagine what Gonzo knows. Imagine the impeachment trial.

No, Alberto is here to stay for the duration, and that's a good thing. Good, because every Democrat running for a seat in Congress in 2008 will hang this burning tire around the neck of every Republican running.

The longer he hangs on, the better.
