McNulty Resignation May Open White House to More Senate Probing
Source: Bloomberg

May 15 (Bloomberg) -- The resignation of Deputy Attorney General Paul McNulty may give Democrats a further opening to embarrass the Bush administration over the firing of eight federal prosecutors.

Democrats vow to keep pressing their investigation of the firings by Attorney General Alberto Gonzales. A confirmation hearing for McNulty's successor would give them additional leverage to make the White House answer questions about the firings.

``We see a department rife with scandal and another agency this administration seeks to manipulate as a political arm of the White House,'' Vermont Senator Patrick Leahy, chairman of the Judiciary Committee, said in a statement. ``The administration should come clean so that we can begin the process of reconstituting the leadership of the Justice Department.''

Leahy previously said that if Gonzales quits, he won't hold confirmation hearings for a new attorney general until the White House answers more questions concerning the firings. . . .

2. I have a funny feeling there won't be too many more recesses
I think congress should keep at least a skeleton crew around 365 days a year until shrubbie is gone.

3. Two assistant US attorneys have been murdered before the purge.
I can't remember the name of this attorney. But Think Progress sometime ago posted the article about an assistant prosecuting attorney from the state of Washington, who was murdered. They said that the US attorney that was fired was really going with the investigation into what happened and who killed him etc. (Nothing has been found out as of yet). The attorney was in his house on his computer and someone fired thru with window and killed him. This US attorney doing the investigation was one that was fired. No reason. Trumped up like the rest.

Then we have a situation in Baltimore. They find thru investigation that some of the members of the governor's staff and administration were involved in using the prostitutes ring. (The governor Bob Ehrlich wasn't mentioned, I don't know if the had proof or if he himself did not partake of the Madam's services.) Then the US attorney and his assistant were investigating. This is when it gets funny not the ha. ha. kind. Assistant prosecuting attorney Luna on his way home from work disappeared. They found his body a couple of days later in PA. They tried to say he committed suicide. But what they did find was he took a round and round route to PA and that he was happy at home with his wife and two kids. Why commit suicide. The attorney (it's all on www.Waynemadison.com) started an investigation into that and then he was among the attorneys fired after Ehrlich called DC for assistance.

There is something fish going on here. And it is a damn shame they can't link these two murders (and I don't think it was a suicide) to this DOJ scandal.

4. A big rush of Gonzo articles, then Falwell died. Statistically significant shift on DU
Here are the posts on Gonzo-gate:

COHEN: Alberto Throws Paul Under Bus; Ditto James to Alberto

with time stamps. They nearly dried up as the focus shifted to the death of Falwell.

8. Are you suggesting...
...that Falwell's death is a distraction from the USA scandal?
