NEW YORK (Reuters) - The Delta Airlines terminal at New York's LaGuardia Airport was evacuated at about 5:40 p.m. on Wednesday and all departing Delta flights were grounded for security reasons, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey said.

A Port Authority spokesman told Reuters the action was ordered by the Transportation Security Administration. He said no other details were immediately available and the grounding would continue until further notice.

2. Oh this is getting ridiculous
Would someone give Tom Ridge some Prozac and get him to calm down. Nothing worse than having a head of homeland security getting everyone into a tizzy over bogus intel from his private sources.

5. ridiculous, unless it's for real
I don't like this shit any more than you. But let's be reasonable before critiquing Ridge. Sure there's a very good chance that the bloated, union-busint Homeland Security apparatus is being overly cautious. I'd rather them being overcautious than sloppy on the job.

6. According to the Guardian the CIA
thinks he's exaggerating. But what would they know?

America deploys missiles around airports/CIA believes threat exaggerated

16. Actually, missles should have been deployed permanantly
Anti-aircraft missiles are a reasonably-cheap, effective means of ensuring these threats never happen again. You can design homeland defense system with a lock-out system like the nuclear missile fleet has that prevents a PFC from downing a 747 by pressing the wrong button. Give the watch commander at NORAD in Col. Springs release authority.

18. Funny. Where was NORAD on 9-11?
Umm..this over-hysteria is unnecessary. How about if we just stop messing around with other countries? How about if we stop stealing their resources and overturning their populist governments? Then we wouldn't have a terrorist problem. Wouldn't that be a lot more rational, not to mention a whole lot cheaper?

9. The naysayers are the first to point fingers when something does happen
Funny how nobody on this board believes there is any reason to be cautious and every alert is merely a cover for other news "they" don't want you to here. Yet the same people jump up and down after 9/11 and scream to know "what he knew and when he knew it". LIHOP. MIHOP and connect the dots. Well folks, these are the dots.

10. Oh please give me a break
Since 9-11 how many times have they raised the alert to Orange and been right? How many times have they said they have intel about an attack and gotten it right? How many major terrorist attacks have occurred around the world that they didn't issue a prior alert? Almost all of them.

Considering that to date most of the previous alerts turned out to be more motivated by politics rather than solid intel, I would guess that this one is no different.

7. A underwire bra shuts the whole system down
A TSA spokeswoman told local radio that a woman passenger set off a metal detector and entered the airport without getting a second screening. Authorities were searching for the passenger, one local radio station said.

Amazing

LaGuardia Terminal Reopens After Security Breach

Wed December 24, 2003 07:35 PM ET

NEW YORK (Reuters) - The Delta Air Lines terminal at New York's LaGuardia Airport was closed for about 90 minutes on Wednesday due to a security breach, a spokeswoman for the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) said.

Just before 6 p.m. a woman passenger set off a metal detector in the terminal, TSA spokeswoman Amy Von Walter told Reuters. The passenger continued into the terminal before she could receive a secondary screening with a hand-wand, Von Walter said.

"We were not able to locate her, which is why the entire concourse was evacuated," she said. "Airport police swept the concourse and, as a precautionary measure, every single passenger from that terminal is being re-screened."

The terminal was reopened shortly after 7 p.m. once the re-screening process was complete. The security breach caused delays of up to an hour for about 10 flights, according to Joshua Smith, a spokesman for Delta, the No. 3 U.S. airline.

So the Delta terminal at LaGuardia was shut down of Christmas Eve because of a wire bra? Now who wants to argue with me about whether or not this Orange Alert thing is beyond ridiculous?

12. So I'm wondering...
if they didn't catch her to re-screen her, how were they able to determine it was her bra? Forgive me if this is a stupid question, never been on an airplane, never will be on an airplane. Do the metal detectors actually show that it was her bra?

13. same here
I was going to ask the same question. They probably are speculating about her bra and have no idea what it was if they were unable to find her.

14. I'm not sure
where Mika got that info. However, I do know that the underwire in womens bras will frequently set off the metal detectors. A woman I work with was subjected to a complete body search because her wire bra set one off.

17. I was speculating (in disgust)
Underwire bras do set off some of the metal detectors.

At Miami airport a few months ago, a woman was so pissed off at HS officers after walking thru the screening machine several times and setting it off that she pulled up her shirt and whipped off her bra in full view of everyone .

She was arrested for indecent exposure.

19. Osama bin Missing's plan worked. Any questions?

With nothing more than an audio tape done by an underling he succeeded in terrifying the great satan. Our entire security apparatus swings into action to find the terrifying BRA. The people of the country are kept scared, the Homeland Insecurity workers are afraid they'll let the 'end of the world' loose on the unsuspecting country, and the paleocons are laughing all the way to the bank.

If this didn't remind me so much of a Harry Senate comedy it would be much easier to take seriously. As it is this brings nothing to mind more than a picture of the big kid jumping out and screaming "BOO" sending the younger kids running and crying in panic.

Sorry, but I don't think Osama is that smart. All this has to have started at the Heritage foundation. LIHOP my ass. It's MIHOP for sure.
