Mortar blasts in Baghdad Green Zone
(AFP)
19 May 2007
BAGHDAD - At least three mortar rounds hit Baghdad’s fortified Green Zone, the seat of the Iraqi government and US embassy, on Saturday, wounding one person, an American official said.
The blasts came just before British Prime Minister Tony Blair arrived in the walled district to meet senior Iraq leaders, but it was not clear whether he was targeted and the area is shelled on an almost daily basis.
Later in the day, two more explosions rocked the area, but it was not immediately clear what they were.

Two killed in attack on Baghdad's Green Zone
BAGHDAD (AFP) - Two people were killed and another eight wounded when 10 mortars slammed into Baghdad's heavily fortified Green Zone, a US embassy official said on Thursday.
In the attack on Wednseday afternoon, "around 10 mortars impacted on the International Zone, wounding eight people and causing two deaths," US embassy spokesman Lou Fintor said.
The two people who were killed and six of the wounded were Iraqis, Fintor said, adding that the other two were "third country nationals," meaning they are neither American nor Iraqi.
Powerful explosions rocked the Assassin's Gate area near the Iraqi defence ministry and the US embassy compound, which is inside the walled district and has in recent weeks become a prime target for insurgent attacks.
On Tuesday, five contractors working for the US embassy were wounded by "indirect fire", an embassy spokesman said. On May 2, two Indians, a Filipino and a Nepalese working for the embassy were killed in a rocket attack.

http://www.armytimes.com/news/2007/05/ap_contractors_greenzone_0705153/BAGHDAD — At least one mortar or rocket slammed into the U.S.-controlled Green Zone on Tuesday, wounding five American Embassy contractors, a spokesman said.
The explosion occurred at 3:59 p.m. (1159 GMT), U.S. Embassy spokesman Lou Fintor said, adding the nationalities of the five embassy contractors who were wounded have “not yet been confirmed.”
Fintor said there were no deaths and property damage was minimal.
Iraqi police said earlier Tuesday that mortar rounds had struck the Green Zone, also known as the International Zone, and a central Baghdad street being reopened to the public on the other side of the Tigris River.
“At least one round of indirect fire impacted the International Zone. The nature of the indirect fire remains under investigation,” Fintor said. Indirect fire can mean a mortar or a rocket attack in military terminology. “The embassy is open and functioning normally.”

BAGHDAD (AP) - A rocket attack on Iraq's heavily fortified Green Zone killed four foreign contractors working for the U.S. government, the American embassy said Thursday. It was the third straight day that extremists used rockets or mortars to hit the area where Iraq's parliament meets.
The embassy said two of the contractors were from India, one was from Nepal and one from the Philippines.
Wednesday was the third straight day that the U.S.-controlled area in central Baghdad - home to the U.S. and British embassies and thousands of American troops - was hit by rockets or mortars.
The embassy said Wednesday's attack left it ``with a profound sense of sadness and regret'' over the loss of the contractors who ``were integral members of our embassy community.''

BAGHDAD — Two explosions struck the Green Zone in Baghdad on Monday, slightly wounding three people, according to the U.S. Embassy.
The first attack was about 2 p.m. when a rocket fell in the heavily fortified area in central Baghdad, causing the injuries, embassy spokesman Lou Fintor said. He did not provide more details about the nationalities of those injured or the exact location of the strikes, citing security concerns.
Another explosion occurred at about 4:20 p.m. and preliminary reports indicated it was a rocket as well, Fintor said. That attack caused no injuries or deaths and only minor damage, he said.
