Bush: September "important moment" in Iraq
Mon May 21, 2007 7:06PM EDT

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President George W. Bush said on Monday
he believes September will be an "important moment" to assess the
extent of progress in Iraq under his troop buildup plan.

Bush has been pressured by lawmakers from his Republican Party to
show progress in Iraq by September or risk their desertion.

Bush said he expects to get an assessment of the impact of the
troop buildup plan from the top U.S. commander in Iraq, Gen. David
Petraeus.

"I see it as an important moment, because David Petraeus says that's
when he'll have a pretty good assessment as to what the effects of
the surge has been," Bush told Reuters in an interview when pressed
on whether he sees September as a make-or-break period.

2. He's right!
For once, the Old Boy is not lying.

September is going to be an important moment.

It's important because he will finally have run out of Alibis, Excuses, Hot Air, Blathering, Eternal Goal Posts which keep getting pushed back forever, Lies, finger pointing, blame the Iraqi's, blame Putin, blame Mongolia etc etc.

The sands of the Hourglass are running low....

9. Oh they will have a new story by September.
There will be a lot of faux progress and even more faux reasons to stay the course. The corporate cronies will not give up their goose that lay golden eggs easily. Not easily at all.

3. Regardless of what is happening, you can be sure there will be a rosy report
about how so much progress is being made and any increased violence or continuing levels of violence was to be expected.

6. Agreed! I expect to hear that the sectarian violence has decreased and that the surge is working
and should be allowed to continue. Of course, the violence will decrease because of funny math on the casualties and outright lies and manipulation of evidence and information, but it will be a "picture of progress".

8. I disagree with that rosy report opinion
The MSM reports doom/gloom daily.
Sure, maybe in a few parts of Iraq things are a bit rosy but reports of success don't get painted with a broad brush as much as they could.

I think it is very possible the report will hint that we may be pulling the US military crutches out from under the armpits of the Iraqi government.

Lets be real about it.

Besides,
the 'freedom fighters' also read daily press releases out of the * camp

-freedom of the press gives them a peak at what cards we may play from now til then. They'll adjust accordingly over the next several months to see what kind of a picture they can paint on the Iraqi landscape by early October.Time is required for all concerned to digest the reports final version.

21. How have you managed to stick around so long?
MSM reports doom and gloom? Iraq not reported as rosy as it could be?

Really? Where is it rosy? Where girls are stoned to death in the North or perhaps in Basra where the Medhi Army runs the show and the Brits retreated to their bases.

4. The Friedman Unit lives!
Thank you liberal media for allowing the Terrorist Regime of DC to keep stringing the people along with the "We will know in 6 months" refrain. This has been repeated since Fall 2003. And will no doubt continue until 20 Jan 2009.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Friedman_unit

Additonally, 5 of the last 8 months have seen an average of 3 american KIAs per day. This level had not been seen since Fallujah Apr 04 and Nov 04 and the early 2005 Sadr confrontation. Very bad sign.

5. Bush Isn't Gonna Make It To September, Nor Is Cheney
This whole thing is gonna blow like a gusher long before Labor Day. And even (or especially) if all the "important" people leave the Beltway, the situation will get much worse much faster than if they all sat and watched the pot boil.

It will be very satisfying, for all the exhausted, when this is over. We might have a reason to rejoice, this Christmas!

10. How's he going to go on his month long August vacation?
With September being so important and all,(but not a deadline or timetable) how does one explain goofing off for the entire month leading into it? Or is that why they needed a "War Czar"?

23. My first thought too. I think Bush is looking for progress by September..
Of course progress to George Bush is the passage of the draft oil law along with its lucrative PSAs.

Yep, ever since the "End of major combat operations" it has just been one turning point after another.

For the above posters that think that Bushco could ever run out of excuses, alibis or cover stories to continue his war of choice, I suggest some of the following:

1. New and incontrovertible evidence of Iranian meddling?

2. Significant progress in neutralizing Al Qaeda in Iraq? Even though Al Qaeda is but a part of the Iraqi stability issue.

3. To prevent the breakup of the Iraqi state along sectarian lines?

4. To fight them over there so we don't have to fight them over here? Oldie, but goodie, that works very well after a announcing an elevated terrorism threat level.

22. Think about the timing... it's just about the very last moment that the thugs can stand
to wait before losing their window of opportunity to have the worst of the war go down the memory hole for election 2008.

It was posted here in the last couple weeks. The pukes see September as the drop dead date for Bush.

24. And Gen. Petraeus has already said that he'll say nothing
So Bush will declare Mission Accomplished. Bush's BS will differ from reality and the republican party will be screwed in the end. Bush will play the pukes for fools once again.

30. The September date bothers me
I keep thinking of Andrew Card's remark before they started the buildup to the Iraq war in September, "From a marketing point of view, you don't introduce new products in August.''

I'm thinking something big is planned for September and it ain't gonna be pretty.
