Senate to hold Gonzales no-confidence vote in June

The Senate will hold a vote of no-confidence on Attorney General Alberto Gonzales in June, the sponsors of the measure announced Thursday.

“Make no mistake about it: We are moving forward,” said Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.), who is leading the effort. “When a situation becomes so serious that there’s a crisis in leadership of this magnitude, a Congress not only has the right to weigh in, we have a responsibility to take action. And we will.”

Schumer added that he and Sens. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) and Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.) secured a promise from Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) that they would get a vote on their measure following Senate action on the immigration bill.

“Former FEMA Director Mike Brown used to be the symbol of the administration’s lack of competence and credibility,” Schumer said. “But now, unfortunately, there’s a new one. I know the president thinks Attorney General Gonzales is ‘doing a heck of a job,’ but nobody else seems to agree.”

2. You wouldn't want to rush into this, after all.
Oh I am so fucking pissed off. I here and now apologize for every bit of negative nastiness I am putting forth. It is all ill-considered, and it ain't going to stop anytime soon.

11. Well, it's not like anyone's dying
Well, nobody you know. Well, nobody you really care about. Well, it's not you dying. Okay, it's not any Senator dying. There. I said it. Happy now? You made the Senators all look like they're a bunch of self-serving chickenshit whiners who are more interested in preserving their careers than they are in governing. Oh sure, it's easy enough to say that if they just governed and carried out the will of the people, they wouldn't have to worry about their careers, but what if someone on Fox says mean things about them? J'ever think of that?? Arrest my case!

3. Not to worry - I'm sure it will be non-binding . . .
Oh, wait - it's a "sense of the Senate" resolution. It WILL be non-binding.

What a relief!

4. Exactly
No hurry. Take your time, Senate.

It's Memorial Day weekend. Take time to remember how your votes mean life or death to many service people - and that you can get back to work later. Have a great weekend.

Assholes.

8. what does the Gonzales no confidence vote
have to do with "life or death to many service people"?

Other than another opportunity to trash on Democrats and call them "assholes", that is?

btw, thanks for your concern and welcome to "hate democrats underground". I'm sure you'll fit right in...

13. OK, so they hold the no confidence vote...
...and surprise, surprise, they find they really don't have any confidence in Alberto ("I don't recall") Gonzales being able to do his job.
:wow:
Then what?

Does the Senate get to vote on THIS appointment, in whom Bush still has full confidence?

Does a 'no confidence' vote mean ANYTHING that we can take home at the end of the day,
and know that something real and meaningful has actually been ACCOMPLISHED?
What IS this portenteous 'action' :eyes: that the Senate is threatening to take?
:banghead:

Because I'm seeing an awful lot of posturing and theater and weeping, wailing, gnashing of teeth...but NOTHING EVER CHANGES.
:nuke:
