CNN Accused of Lying about Venezuela
Source: Prensa Latina

Caracas, May 28 (Prensa Latina) The Venezuelan Government accused CNN on Monday of lying about Venezuela and producing political propaganda, and requested an investigation into local Globovision channel for possible incitement to assassination.

Communication and Information Minister William Lara made the denunciation after presenting the Attorney General's Office with a demand to investigate Globovision.

Lara said CNN had gone to the extreme of violating the code of ethics of any social communicator in the world, and accused the station of dealing in lies.

9. I guess you prefer a freedom of speech decider then?
I don't really find your criticism of the US to be a strong argument for Chavez' solution. Currently access to US airwaves requires a lot of money yes, but the number of outlets is increasing, and assuming a broadcaster can get an audience to support him he can say just about anything he wants without being shut down by the state.

12. As you can see I didn't defend that.
If the station was involved in that kind of effort its different of course. About all I can say is the country is far from being a stable democracy and its difficult to tell at this whether its improving or not.

17. Not Stable? With the Help of the CIA?
Considering the dung they have had to put up with from US interference, I'd say they are pretty damned stable.

The South American Union?
The Bank of the South?
The withdrawal from the World Bank?

I'd say Hugo is doing a pretty damned good job of fending off the international vampires in Washington.

to be sarcastic in answer to that neutral post? One of these days I'll learn to just stop commenting on Chavez, too many near religious believers around here.

28. What is a stable democracy
I used to think it was the US until 2000. Stability must be the people under control of of media. Because the US is the most stable it's ever been.

18. He cannot advocate overthrow of the government and
assassination of the president. Unless of course he's a neocon and the president is a Democrat. Chavez is in a life or death struggle with the American corporate elite and he's fighting back within the boundaries of the law, which is a damned sight more than I can say for our beloved chimpster-in-chief.

6. That's no surprise
They're nothing but capitalist propaganda machines.

Case in point, CNN.COM:

Today on their front page, a big article about Venezuelan police firing rubber bullets into a crowd.

When American police used rubber bullets against a May Day immigration rally, CNN.COM buried the story as quick as they could.

19. I'm not so sure about that
At least most folks know that Fox is lying. But they seem to think networks like CBS are honest, which is a bit more dangerous in my view.

24. check out CNN's headlines right now
I don't know about the article being referenced to by the Venezuelan government, but if you want to see overt bias, check out CNN's headlines right now. They have one that says "Venezuelan Protesters Fired On." Immediately images of Kent State pop in your head.

RTFA and buried a couple of paragraphs in, you find that the crowd had been assaulting police and the police responded with tear gas and rubber bullets. Then buried near the end is a blurb about thousands of SUPPORTERS cheering on the switch away from RCTV.

Ah, American bias.
