Two more 10th Mountain Division soldiers killed in Iraq
Source: AP

The 10th Mountain Division has suffered more casualties in Iraq. A spokesman at Fort Drum in northern New York says two soldiers from the division were killed south of Baghdad yesterday. No other details are immediately available.

Thousands of soldiers from the division's 2nd Brigade CombatTeam are involved in the search for two soldiers captured in a May 12th ambush south of Baghdad. Four other soldiers from the same brigade were killed in the attack and the body of a fifth soldier was pulled from a river last week.

2. Because they're not elite "Mountain Troops"
The 10th was trained for mountain fighting, but that was in WWII. The "Mountain" reference is purely for historical reasons, just like the 101st Airborne isn't really an Airborne division anymore.

6. Huh, didn't know.
Does not change the fact that neither they, nor any other American soldiers should be in Iraq.

3. 10th MTN is mountain in name only
It is a light infantry division used for rapid world wide mobility.
Although some units do get mountain warfare training, they also receive jungle and desert training as well.
I served in 1st Brigade for 5 years. Tours included Somalia and Haiti.
I loved my unit, the post and Northern NY.
This kind of news breaks my heart everytime.
