More Nudity than Normal hits Amsterdam
Source: A.P.

June 3, 2007
AMSTERDAM, Netherlands - Dozens of women posed naked on their bicycles on a bridge over one of Amsterdam’s historic canals Sunday — a unique sight even in a city famed for its relaxed attitude toward nudity and sex.

They were among 2,000 men and women who participated in a series of four nude group photos in the city in the early hours of the morning as part of the latest project of U.S. photographer Spencer Tunick.

The first and largest composition was in a decidedly prosaic location: a parking garage on the outer ring of the city.

10. You know what is really odd, is that all the Dutch I know are very very bourgeois!
Not neo-Victorian prigs, by any means, but very straight laced up right dudes and chicks. Most of them are offended if you ask them about Amsterdam's Red Light District or Brown Cafes!

OH! Don't assume they have a hash connection, either, it can get your face slapped, as a guy I know found out when a Dutch friend was crashing at our house waiting on a plane to Schipol from Atlanta!

16. interesting, isn't it -- when I was working over there one summer ...
.... my hosts were exactly as you describe (older, small-c conservative) -- but when an American visitor insinuated that the country was less moral than the US because there were kids smoking pot, they turned frigidly polite and began to defend the teenagers. The elderly Dutchman (who had fought in WWII) even said he was proud of the kids who did their National Service with body piercings or dyed hair, and startled visiting NATO officers (especially the German ones) -- or who declared Conscientious Objector status outright.
