Newspaper Pays Libel Ruling To Judge
Source: WLBZ-TV Bangor (NBC)

Murphy claimed in his libel suit that the Herald had depicted him as soft on crime and insensitive to the suffering of a 14-year-old rape victim in a series of articles published in 2002.

1. The headline makes it sound as if they are paying off the judge.
Yet they are simply paying off their debt.

"The money wired to Judge Ernest Murphy includes two million dollars awarded in the verdict and $1.4 million in interest."

So does the judge then distributes the money to the victim of the libel?

3. This was the case where the Herald reporter went on O'Really
The reporter essentially republished the libel by putting it out on Billo's show. There was some discussion on KO when the story broke a few days ago about whether Billo should have been a defendant as well.
