WASHINGTON (Reuters) - More than 400,000 letters have been sent to members of the U.S. Congress backing a call for an independent investigation into intelligence used by the Bush administration to justify the Iraq war, organizers of an online campaign said on Tuesday.

The campaign, being run by the advocacy group Moveon.org (http:// www.moveon.org), is trying to pressure lawmakers to back a bill introduced by Rep. Henry Waxman, a California Democrat, that would create a nonpartisan commission to probe the intelligence.

"People feel like the president is not giving them straight answers and they want to know why the president said what he did in the State of Union address," Eli Pariser, the campaign organizer said in a telephone interview.

1. I seem to recall that there is a ratio between those who write...
and those who don't but feel the same way in politics. Does anyone know what that ratio is? I seem to remember it being quite high (like 1:100) but cannot recall the specific number...

2. TrueMajority.com is in on this too.
I wonder if there will be a line drawn down the middle on this one like there was in the Senate, with all dems voting for the investigation and all repubs against it. 'Course then we'll lose. Does anybody know of any repuke reps. that might vote for it that we can pester?

4. I wrote an e-letter to my Congressman
I did this independently from any online organization.

I directed him to take a look at the article "Ten Appalling Lies We Were Told About Iraq."

He replied in a personal note (snail mail). He told me that he was "confident that out War in Iraq was justified." Why? Because Saddam was a "cruel dictator and a threat to other countries, including the United States."

However, despite this he said I'd raised a serious concern and that he'd keep this in mind as Congress discussed this matter.

Considering his ideological background (Dem, but of the Southern conservative variety with a large military presence in his district), I consider this just about as much as I could expect.

Little by little we've got to prod them to examine the lies. The issue is not that Saddam was actually a swell guy. The issue is the abuse of power that led this nation to war using arguments based on false and distorted evidence. The two have to be separated.
