Brownback Aide Chided on Anti-Mormon Bid
By HOPE YEN, Associated Press Writer

Sunday, June 17, 2007
(06-17) 13:47 PDT WASHINGTON, (AP) --

An aide to GOP presidential candidate Sam Brownback has been reprimanded for sending e-mail to Iowa Republican leaders in an apparent attempt to draw unfavorable scrutiny to rival Mitt Romney's Mormonism.

Emma Nemecek, the southeastern Iowa field director for Brownback's presidential campaign and a former state representative candidate, violated campaign policy when she forwarded the June 6 e-mail from an interest group raising the questions, the Brownback campaign said Sunday.

The e-mail requested help in fact-checking a series of statements about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Among the statements: "Theologically, the only thing Christianity and the LDS church has in common is the name of Jesus Christ, and the LDS Jesus is not the same Jesus of the Christian faith" and "The LDS church has never been accepted by the Christian Council of Churches."

1. It's not proper for a campaign, but Mormonism is considered to be a cult by fundamentalist churches.
This may be a joke to many here, but for many, many fundamentalist and evangelical Christians it is a deal-breaker. They will look upon Romney's first allegiance as being to the Mormon church.

Brownback Apologizes to Romney
Brownback Apologizes to Romney for Staffer E-Mail
Criticizing Mormon Church

By LIBBY QUAID Associated Press Writer
WASHINGTON Jun 18, 2007 (AP)

Republican presidential hopeful Sam Brownback on Monday
telephoned rival Mitt Romney to apologize for a campaign
staffer's e-mail criticizing the Mormon church.

The Kansas senator "was very disappointed, clearly sort
of personally hurt that this had happened in his team,
and he said he is going to be very aggressive to make
sure it doesn't happen again," spokesman Brian Hart said.
"There's no place for this in his campaign."

Romney said Monday night that he had accepted
Brownback's apology.

"He said that religious attacks don't have any place in
politics and, of course, we agree on that," Romney said.
"I told him that was not a big matter to me. If I can't
stand the heat I shouldn't be in the kitchen."

4. This from a man with ties to the Opus Dei cult
Pot, meet kettle...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sam_Brownback#Biography

Raised as a Methodist, Brownback later joined a nondenominational evangelical church, and in 2002 he became Catholic. He joined the Catholic Church through Opus Dei member Father C. John McCloskey in Washington DC. Brownback himself, however, is not a member of the Opus Dei organization.

If for some reason one of the candidates with an actual shot in hell decided to try to tear down Brownshirt, do you think for a minute they'd hold back on this because he claims not to be a member? Ha!
