Firefighters inhaled as ton of pot burned, chief says
POSTED: 11:07 a.m. EDT, June 22, 2007
Story Highlights
• Ton of pot burns in Texas warehouse
• 35 firefighters respond; battle blaze for half an hour
• Chief says they inhaled enough fumes to flunk drug test

EDINBURG, Texas (AP) -- Firefighters who spent half an hour fighting a blaze in which 2,000 pounds of marijuana went up in smoke breathed so much of it that they would have failed a drug test, a fire chief said.

It took more than 35 firefighters, 1,000 gallons of water and five gallons of chemical suppressant to extinguish the warehouse blaze on Wednesday, Fire Chief Shawn Snider said.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents were investigating the origin of the drugs.

The Hidalgo County fire marshal was investigating whether arson was the cause.

7. At last, something to laugh about.
This is proof that the drug dealers are in the last throws.
So desperate, they'd burn their own weed.
We've got them on the run.

8. Let's do some easy math....
35 Firefighters X 30 minutes=1050
1000 gallons water+5 gallons suppresant chemical=1005
THEREFORE each firefighter delivered .9571428 gallons per minute....
Does this sound like a proffessional assault on a conflagration or more like they stopped for Cheeto's while wandering by with beach pails???

10. Makes you wonder about the protective gear fire fighters wear to protect
them from inhaling smoke and chemicals.

On the other hand, I suppose there are some fires where they don't need that equimpment as much as others. And, some fires aren't as serious as others and I'll bet by the time this one was out, it was probably one of the funniest calls these fire fighters ever responded to.

I've never been one to stop and gawk at accidents or fires, but I might have made an exception for this one, especially if I could have found a spot downwind. :headbang:

17. Rescue Me reflects real life!
The fX show, Rescue Me, did an episode where this exact thing happened!
The guys all game downstairs, then started talking about how dry their mouths were, and how hungry they were all of a sudden.
It was hilarious!
