Islamist sniper, bomb kill four Lebanese troops
23 Jun 2007 13:42:20 GMT

NAHR AL-BARED, Lebanon, June 23 (Reuters) - Islamist militants
shot dead a Lebanese soldier and one of their booby traps killed
three other soldiers at a Palestinian refugee camp on Saturday,
drawing fierce artillery shelling from the army.

Al Qaeda-inspired Fatah al-Islam snipers gunned down the soldier
and wounded three others at Nahr al-Bared camp in north Lebanon,
scene of five weeks of battles.

Shortly afterwards a booby-trap blast killed three more soldiers
and wounded one, security sources said. The soldiers had been
on a demining mission.

The deaths were the first military fatalities since the army
declared an end to major combat on Thursday and brought to
80 the number of troops killed in the fighting.

1. Al Qaeda were operatives of the CIA at one time, so could they still
....be operating in that capacity now?

5. How could they tell the sniper was Islamic? No mention of capture and
interrogation. No mention of searching bodies and finding "Islamic credentials."

Nothing but propaganda and bullshit.

6. It said Islamist, not Islamic. There's a difference
As for how they knew, it's because he was part of an Islamist militant group. If it were a Communist militant group, no one would dispute saying "Communist sniper"

By Nazih Siddiq

TRIPOLI, Lebanon (Reuters) - Lebanese troops killed seven
Islamist militants, most of them foreigners, in a raid on
their hideout in the northern city of Tripoli on Sunday,
while sporadic battles shook a nearby Palestinian refugee
camp.

Security sources said one soldier was killed and 14 were
wounded during the 10-hour siege of an apartment building.
The militants killed a policeman, his two daughters, aged
4 and 8, and his father-in-law after using them as human
shields.

A police statement said the policeman and his daughters
were visiting the father-in-law who lived in the building
when the militants stormed their flat and seized them at
the start of the clashes. The militants later killed them,
it said.
