Elizabeth Edwards To Coulter: Stop Attacks
Source: AP

(AP) Elizabeth Edwards pleaded Tuesday with Ann Coulter to “stop the personal attacks,” a day after the conservative commentator said she wished Edwards' husband, Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards, had been killed by terrorists.

“The things she has said over the years, not just about John but about other candidates, lowers the political dialogue at precisely the time we need to raise it,” Edwards said by phone on MSNBC's “Hardball with Chris Matthews,” where Coulter was a guest.

Elizabeth Edwards said she did not consult her husband before confronting Coulter on the air, adding that she felt the pundit's remarks were “a dialogue on hatefulness and ugliness.”

...

Coulter responded with a laugh, and charged that Edwards was calling on her to stop speaking altogether. She questioned why Elizabeth Edwards was making a phone call on behalf of her husband, and criticized John Edwards for “stealing doctors' money” during his successful career as a trial lawyer.

1. I wouldn't think that Mrs. Edwards would have to get approval from
her husband to say or speak her mind ever. I've never gotten anything put the feeling of love, respect and admiration between these two. I don't like that comment... I don't think she needs permission to squash Ann Coulter.

2. Can you tell me what Coulter said about the Edwards' child
who died. Elizabeth alluded to it but Coulter was talking over her and I could not make it out. Obviously, I missed this if it has been discussed before. I think Coulter may have said this some time ago.

3. Coulter said something to this effect"
"John Edwards drives around in a car with a bumpersticker that says, "Ask Me About My Dead Son."

14. Here's what she said
Edwards has talked about his son's death in a 1996 car accident on "Good Morning America," in dozens of profiles and in his new book. ("It was and is the most important fact of my life.") His 1998 Senate campaign ads featured film footage of Edwards at a learning lab he founded in honor of his son, titled "The Wade Edwards Learning Lab." He wears his son's Outward Bound pin on his suit lapel. He was going to wear it on his sleeve, until someone suggested that might be a little too "on the nose."

If you want points for not using your son's death politically, don't you have to take down all those "Ask me about my son's death in a horrific car accident" bumper stickers? Edwards is like a politician who keeps announcing that he will not use his opponent's criminal record for partisan political advantage. I absolutely refuse to mention the name of my dearly beloved and recently departed son killed horribly in a car accident, which affected me deeply, to score cheap political points.

I remember how reluctant Edwards was to bring up his son's death in interviews and on numerous occasions would politely mention this was a private matter and for the interviewer to move on.

4. I believe she said something to the effect that J. Edwards
had a bumper sticker on his car saying "Ask Me About My Dead Son!" -- implying that they were exploiting their son's death for sympathy, votes, etc.

5. An unintentionally telling response from Coulter
(Emphasis added--Rob)

Elizabeth Edwards said she did not consult her husband before confronting Coulter on the air, adding that she felt the pundit's remarks were “a dialogue on hatefulness and ugliness.”

“It debases political dialogue,” Edwards said. “It drives people away from the process. We can't have a debate about issues if you're using this kind of language.”

Coulter responded with a laugh, and charged that Edwards was calling on her to stop speaking altogether.

Hey, at least she admits that everything she says is hateful and ugly.

8. That's right...coultergeist makes it
a point to not say anything that isn't vulgar and sewer inspired..her ugly imagination isn't capable of it.

Good for Elizabeth Edwards making the point that this is the time to raise the political debate not lower even more with spewings from the netherworld.

tweety is a fucking idiot acknowledging such a filthy outhouse mouth.

coulter rides around with a bumpersticker that says, "ASK ME ABOUT MY FUCKING CONNECTIONS TO THE NETHERWORLD!"

12. ROTFLMAO!!
"Connections to the netherworld", I love it! The other day, I saw Tasmanian devils on Animal Planet...and the way they looked when they opened their mouths wide and let loose with uneartly, hateful shrieks literally reminded me of mAnn Coulter. She's a demon straight from the bowels of hell.

I don't want to be anywhere in her vicinity, when "what goes around comes around", and that manbitch is smacked upside that bleached head by karma's payback.

:scared:

11. poster child for bad parenting
Grandma always told me, "If you can't say something nice about someone, don't say anything."

We need to listen to our Grandmas more often.

6. ironic: Coulter equates not calling for someone's death to not speaking at all
essentially admitting without hate and inciting violence, she has nothing left to say.

7. Coulter has become yesterday's news.
No one cares what she has to say anymore. She is just grasping at anything. But it won't matter. Edwards should just completely ignore her.

9. I So Wish
I so wish that she would debate someone like Al Franken, on a forum where they
shut off the other's mic so they can't overtalk the replies...and let him say...
"You wanna get personal? Okay. You've got a bigger adam's apple than I do
& look like a transvestite. You're an anorexic blonde, used by the righties
to maintain the attention of simple folk men (ie. ignorants who vote GOP
because they think that they 'represent them' (ie. the little guy) and
not the rich - hah) who can't take their eyes off an anorexic blonde.
Last time I counted, you flip your hair 'just right' on your shoulder
100 times a minute and I am willing to bet you pee standing up".

13. The Al Franken/mAnn Coulter debate would be hilarious
But even better, I'd like her to go head to head with Henry Rollins. His video about her was a riot, esp. the way he told her to "Shut the @#$% up!"

10. Ann Coulter is doing her best impression of Alicia Silverstone's acting career...
...and hopefully, will too fall of the face of the earth.

15. I was glad to see on the internet that almost all of the MSM
network sites had this story. Elizabeth really came out looking good on this one and Coultergeist came out looking like the beast she is.

17. Contact...
...MSNBC on this. Here's my letter:

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

When I saw the promo that Ann Coulter was to be on Hardball...which I often watch...I was disgusted. I did not watch it live. When I heard about Elizabeth Edwards calling in, and the controversy, I did watch the interview online.

This morning, that interview has been 'the topic' on most MSNBC shows. In a kindergarten-like discussion, your people are pointing the finger and saying "She did it , first"..."No, she started it" to decide whether the blame for what happened on the show is Coulter or Edwards' fault. PATHETIC!

You are all missing the point. Ann Coulter has ONE motive: Get attention by stirring up controversy through the use of hateful speech so that she can sell books and make MONEY. She has used many people, including the Edwards and the 9/11 widows as her victims if it suits her purpose. MSNBC just demonstrated to me that you are willing to sink to her level for ratings...and to also make money.

I'm proud of ANYONE who stands up against this kind of hateful, childish dialog in our society. ..and I thank Elizabeth Edwards for doing so. That is what a strong First Lady should do for our country...point out the need for discussion on the issues when we are electing a President. Our country DESPERATELY needs to focus on issues at this critical time. What Ann Coulter does is distract from that, for her own selfish purposes. The media is responsible as well for giving her the stage.

If you all haven't read Al Gore's book, "Assault on Reason", I suggest you do. Many of us citizens are reading it and agree with the former Vice President about the role of television on democracy. I am seriously considering disconnecting my cable TV service...due to this kind of programming. The only thing that is keeping me as a customer is C-Span , PBS and Countdown, with Keith Olbermann on your network. If I see Ann Coulter on one of those shows, I'll be done.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>:patriot:
