Iran helping to plan attacks in Iraq - US
By Alister Bull

BAGHDAD, June 27 (Reuters) - Iran is training fighters in Iraq and helping to plan attacks there despite diplomatic pressure for change, U.S. officials said on Wednesday, while violence around the Arab state killed at least 19 people.

The latest accusation levelled against Iran by the U.S. military followed rare diplomatic talks in Baghdad last month between the two old adversaries to discuss Washington's concerns in Iraq.

"There absolutely is evidence of Iranian operatives holding weapons, training fighters, providing resources, helping plan operations, resourcing secret cells that is destabilising Iraq," said chief military spokesman Brigadier General Kevin Bergner.

"We would like very much to see some action on their part to reduce the level of effort and to help contribute to Iraq's security. We have not seen it yet," he told a news conference.

4. This requires a little explanation
I know the American people have not been following this civil war too closely but among the sophisticated
students perhaps there has arisen a need to justify this accusation a little more clearly.

Shiites- Anti-American Sadr forces.

Al Qaeda- Sunni volunteers from other nations too embarrassing to name. Syria is a natural but is avoided almost as much as the big whopper in the room, saudi Arabia.

Local Sunnis who are not necessarily thrilled about the terrorists from other countries fomenting civil war fro civil war's sake. You know, those armed and unemployed, disempowered minions of Hussein.

The Shiite majority trying to hang on to their newfound power even through American puppets. A balancing act to protect themselves- with likely Iranian aid, their "army" and police having second jobs in their own militias.

Now the Bush administration will make this very very simple for you. Americans are fighting and being killed by Al Qaeda. That bunch or terrorist bombers is hated by the populace. They are being supplied by Iran to to to... destroy the Shiite government there??? To drive Americans out by the hands of Sunni terrorists? Just like the Iranians are aiding El Sadr, not Al Qaeda to quid pro quo against the Sunni death squads and bypass the moderate American puppets. Wait, this was supposed to be simple... Bomb Iran. That will solve everything. That should sure hurt Al Qaeda and the Sunnis(including terrorists inside Iran doing OUR bidding) by bringing the Shiites down another peg even if they have nothing to do with other than the useful general task of general slaughter. it might even be worth their while for Al Qaeda Sunnis to claim they get guns from Iran. Simple way to get a lot more Shiites killed.

I wonder if Bush's briefings try to explain why they try to explain things this way. Probably not, which most explains why this bald faced muddle gets passed down for public consumption in this absurd format.
