Lawsuit ends over boy-pilot's acne drug

Relatives of a 15-year-old boy who crashed a stolen plane into a skyscraper in 2002 have dropped their lawsuit that blamed an acne drug for his suicide, saying they were physically and emotionally unable to pursue the claim.

U.S. District Judge James Moody dismissed the lawsuit Tuesday at the request of lawyers for Julia Bishop and Karen Johnson, the mother and grandmother of Charles Bishop.

The boy's death gained international attention as images were broadcast of the stolen Cessna protruding from the Bank of America Plaza downtown, four months after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. Inside the plane, Charles left a note sympathetic to Osama bin Laden.

I took it myself to get rid of acne. I believe it certainly influenced my train of thought to be different, to say the least, though nothing at all like this. That said, I think that Accutane is a good and useful medication. There are serious side effects, as with many medications, and there needs to be a mechanism to monitor them. Many adolescents with acne have emotional disorders to begin with, and the influence of this powerful medication can help push some people over the edge, so to speak. Parents, friends, and especially physicians and mental health professionals need to be aware of this and serve as a support network.

For teens with severe acne, it is a Godsend.

I went through 3 courses myself, and I'm so grateful I had the chance to use it. Severe acne is both extremely painful and disfiguring. And those who suffer it are blamed for being "dirty" and "gross".

This post is meant just to build on David's. It needs to remain available, although those who take it should be monitored carefully.
