Rove takes questions on Iraq, CIA case

Brent Gardner-Smith - Aspen Daily News Staff Writer
Sun 07/08/2007 09:01PM MST

Against the backdrop of a renewed level of carnage in Iraq over the weekend, Karl Rove remained unapologetic Sunday morning in Aspen about the war in Iraq. Rove — whose titles include assistant to the president, deputy chief of staff and senior advisor to President Bush — spoke at the Greenwald Pavilion at the Aspen Ideas Festival at the Aspen Institute.

"Look, I make no apologies," Rove said in response to a question from the audience about whether he felt personally responsible for the war. "It was the right thing to do. The world is better off with him gone," he said, referring to Saddam Hussein. "We all thought he had weapons of mass destruction. The whole world did. He didn't."

Rove was also asked about his role in the CIA leak case involving Valerie Plame Wilson. He replied, "My contribution to this was to say to a reporter, which is a lesson about talking to reporters, the words 'I heard that, too.'"

Rove said he was responding to a statement from columnist Bob Novak about the status of Valerie Wilson. Wilson worked at the CIA and was married to former ambassador Joe Wilson, who was publicly critical of the Bush administration's rationale for the war in Iraq.

5. GOP used to be touted as "the party of personal responsibility."
But now, after creating one of the worst messes the world as ever known, they won't even acknowledge that it's a mess.

And they blame our involvement on information they manipulated.

Not only won't they apologize, they say the world is a better place. While we're looking at a disaster, they're papering it over words.

"The party of personal responsibility?" Why not? they're just words.

11. sorry Karl...
the "whole world" did not. Hans Blix specifically stated that they'd found nothing. I would say, since he speaks for the UN, that indeed the world did NOT think that anything was there.

14. There is the thought that if the news machine repeats something often enough
the propaganda will be catapulted and the people will believe it as true.

However, there is also the flip side to that...

There is a break point when something is repeated often enough in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary, that the nation begins to believe the opposite of what is said, in other words, the nation no longer believes the line of bullshit.

we are now there. finally.

16. Are we? Could someone please notify our Democratic leadership...
I really don't think they get it--or more likely, they're just play acting--showing just enough outrage to keep their base without loosing their corporate sponsors.

Rove: ‘I Make No Apologies’ For Any Of Administration’s Mistakes Or Lies

This weekend at the Aspen Ideas Festival, President Bush’s political adviser Karl Rove seemed incapable of uttering a single honest statement.

Facing a chilly reception from the audience, who “shook their heads and groaned in unison” during the speech, Rove grossly distorted administration’s policies, on everything from Guantanamo to Iraq to the leak case:

On Guantanamo:

“Our principal health problem down there is gain of weight, we feed them so well.” In fact, Guantanamo prisoners are facing a mental health crisis, with over 40 suicide attempts since its opening, including one suicide in May. Some have been so severely tortured that they were treated by “experts in treating torture victims.”

23. My life is so much better since Saddam is gone...talk about overstaying one's welcome
The old slogans had became their own parody even in the eyes of the backwash...That the "genius" Karl seems to have run of new ones seems to be the news here...
No more elections, no need to justify their crimes anymore. it's all out in the open now...

26. "The world did...." OMFG! How, How, how can this man walk the streets?
He should be in chains, in the stockades on some public square, in some small town that's lost some local boys in the War of Lies. Good men. Fathers. Husbands. Teachers. Mechanics. Coaches. Brothers. Mentors.

And, if the *ahem* world did believe it, if only briefly, its because Rove helped orchestrate a grotesque media blitz of lies wrapped in hyperbolic, fear mongering, rhetoric.
