Ford sees plug-in hybrids in 5-10 years
Source: CNN

"Consumers have been waiting a long time for an automaker to offer the next generation of ultra-fuel-efficient, gasoline-optional cars," said environmental groups Rainforest Action Network and Global Exchange Campaign in response to Ford's announcement.

Ford will initially work exclusively with Southern California Electric to develop the testing procedures, but did not rule out working with other partners in the future. And Bryson said SCE will work with other automakers.

The two companies came together because of the relationship of the two chief executives, who are both linked to Boeing Corp.

Mulally was Boeing's executive vice president before joining Ford in September 2006 and Bryson is a director of Boeing.

Ironically I saw http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Who_Killed_the_Electric_Car%3F">Who Killed the Electric Car last night. Sorry to say that news like this is not as good as it normally would be. Seeing they had very nice http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_Motors_EV1">electric cars already on the road and they ended up pulling them and destroying them to keep them from getting too popular.

3. What a load of crap. All manufacturers that sell cars in CA have already produced EVs -
totally electric vehicles - and batteries are available that would allow the EVs to be charged from on a standard extension cord from home and would run for up to 300 miles on one charge.

5 years. Bullshit.

We don't have 5 years.

All cars manufactured from 2008 on should be EVs -- cut the hybrid crap.

:grr:
