Former Bush Aide Denies Knowledge President Involved in Firings
James Rowley

July 11 (Bloomberg) -- Former White House political director Sara Taylor said she didn't believe President George W. Bush was involved in firing eight U.S. prosecutors, prompting Democratic accusations she was helping further a coverup.

Taylor, 32, testifying today before the Senate Judiciary Committee in Washington, said she never discussed last year's dismissals with the president. Asked by Rhode Island Democrat Sheldon Whitehouse whether Bush was ``involved in any way,'' Taylor said, ``I don't have any knowledge that he was.''

Lawmakers are investigating whether the firings were motivated by improper political motives, such as to quash probes of Republicans. Taylor refused to tell senators about internal White House discussions on the firings, citing Bush's invocation of executive privilege to protect his ability to receive confidential advice. She did answer a number of questions she considered purely ``factual.''

Democrats accused Taylor, who left the White House in May, of selectively deciding which questions to answer based on whether her responses would help the Bush administration.

3. I am confused
Sara Taylor no longer works for this administration.

How can Bush exert executive privilege over her if she is a private citizen

5. Her testimony that she didn't know of any presidential involvement in the firings
Leahy said he hasn't decided whether to seek to hold Taylor in contempt for refusing to answer questions. Her testimony that she didn't know of any presidential involvement in the firings "seriously undercuts his claim of executive privilege if he was not involved," he said.

7. No one was involved in the firings. Not Gonzo, not Rove, not Taylor
no higher ups, no lower downs. No one. It was a miracle.
