Labor board files complaint vs Washington Post (1,200 Post workers)

NEW YORK (Reuters) - The U.S. National Labor Relations Board filed a formal complaint against the Washington Post Co, saying the publisher failed to bargain with its employee union over extra duties asked of staff, the union said on Thursday.

The labor relations board's general counsel concluded that the Post "repeatedly violated established federal labor law" starting in 2006 by asking employees to work on the company's radio broadcasts, according to a statement by the Newspaper Guild.

The decision of the labor relations board backs charges made by the Washington-Baltimore Newspaper Guild, which represents more than 1,200 Post workers.

The labor relations board also said the Post failed to negotiate in good faith with the union over work that Post advertising employees were asked to do for independent satirical newspaper The Onion.
