Teen Dies After Falling From Ride
Source: aol news

OSHKOSH, Wis. (July 15) - Police and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration were investigating Sunday why a teen fell from a festival ride and died.

Elizabeth K. Mohl, 16, of Neenah, was killed Saturday afternoon after falling 40 to 50 feet from a ride called Air Glory.

Winnebago County Deputy Coroner Chuck Hable said Sunday that a crane would hoist up a person or people in a sling, and at the top the person inside pulls a ripcord. That drops the person or people and they swing back and forth. But for some reason after the cord was pulled, she fell to the ground, he said.

She died several hours later in surgery, Hable said.

i'm sure there have always been problems with rides. but it seems they are happening more now. or maybe i'm just hearing about them more now. also, i have never heard of this bungee type ride anywhere. has anyone had personal experience with it?

1. Well, I do believe OSHA was cut back on Bush's watch and a lot
of standards are being ignored due to lack of resources.

7. OSHA is in full force trust me....

I just received a $10,000 fine for not wearing a safety harness while I was on a lift for 10 seconds the other day. The fine will be reduced to $100 because it is a first offense and it was quickly remedied. But just to let you know, they are watching...
Being a Small Business owner with this administration at the helm is quite disturbing.

17. It wouldn't surprise me if they are watching some of the smaller
companies and not the larger ones. IIRC, British Petroleum's payout to the victims' families for the explosion in Texas City (or Baytown?) a few years ago also pointed out the fact that OSHA wasn't paying very close attention to safety issues at large plants.

I wonder what the internal memos at OSHA say about targets for the next few years.

Glad your fine was reduced to $100. That seems more reasonable, especially for a small business owner.

3. "Lifest 2007 Christian festival"
Hmmmm, explain to me again why someone who's "praisin' the lord" was splatted on the ground?

Wouldn't the festivities have some sort of divine aura to defend against splattin'?

Poor kid, condolences to the family on such a young loss, but I had to ask.

4. Well, I don't feel as bad about asking that question...
the fundies are out in force in their comments section:

"rebul23 04:41:19 AM Jul 16 2007

God does have a plan for each of us, His word confirms this. You can reject it and and those who believe it if you want. We still love each of you and pray for you to know Him. His word also states that when Jesus returns every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that he is Lord."

i truly have faith that nothing that happens is an accident . GOD has a plan for evey life when that work is complete GOD takes us home with HIM . my prayers go out to her friends and family for comfort in this time of need"

God sounds like a fuckwad if he/she/it planned to kill this kid. Maybe we should send him to prison for murder like we do with people.

8. These people are nuts.
Human neglect results in someone's death, and then because it happened at one of their fundie events, they pin it on God.

Their ridiculous assertion that things like this are "God's will" or "part of God's plan" has probably created more atheists than they will ever know.

9. Matthew 4, vs 6 and 7
<6> And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.
<7> Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.

Gotta watch it reading that "Cliff's Notes" version of the bible: you miss important information.

13. but this is no ordinary ride if it is the kind I have seen..
this is where they put people together in a sling...and they hoist you up in the air and they let go...and you go into free fall and swing back and forth. Here in Pittsburgh they have one of these kinds of "rides" and you have to pay extra to do it ($20+) per person and you have to sign waivers...

You have only to see it once to say..."oh no thank you"...it makes me nauseous watching it ...

I feel really bad for this child's parents...what an awful thing to have happen.

16. odds
100:1 odds there will be a lawsuit filed within the next 90 days. Make that 1000:1.

Maybe this group of fundies can get their collection plate together and pay that family the cost of losing their child.
