WASHINGTON, July 22 (Xinhua) -- The United States will use any measure to deal with the al Qaeda terrorist organization, including a military strike inside Pakistan, a senior White House official said Sunday.

"No question that we will use any instrument at our disposal to deal with the problem of (al Qaeda leaders) Osama bin Laden and Zawahiri and al Qaeda," said Fran Townsend, the president's homeland security adviser, when asked if the United States would use direct military force against Taliban or al Qaeda elements inside Pakistan.

In an interview with the CNN news network, Townsend said there were "no tools off the table," and that the United States would use all "our instruments of national power to be effective" to kill bin Laden and other high-ranking al Qaeda leaders.

In a report released last week, the office of Director of the National Intelligence warned that al Qaeda was stepping up its efforts to plot attacks on U.S. soil.

1. Hmmm....if they didn't divert attention away from Pakistan to Iraq....
...then we would have had more resources to strike al queda in Pakistan, and then too, Iraq would not now be a hotbed for al queda....

11. SIX years ago. Only a lapdog media would have let Bush get away with
such absolute failure, and not say a word.

3. No way
No way we'd attack Pakistan. There are dire consequences to doing so, remember? They are untouchable, just like Saudi Arabia.

Now, we might attack some harmless civilians in Pakistan, but Al Queda? No way. We've never done it before, and we won't start now, especially since the election is too far off. Bin Laden won't be caught until October 2008, when Mitt Romney will take him out Jack Bauer style.

5. This announcement means it's going to happen.
When did this come out? Over the weekend. Nobody is paying attention to the weekend news. It's an advance announcement.
Now they can say, when everyone wonders why, "We told the American people we were going to do this. Don't you remember? It was on a Sunday in July."

Of course, the Decider Monkey should have never given up the first search for bin Laden and his crew.
They are a larger threat to US security than Saddam ever was.

6. If the U.S. begins conducting military strikes inside Pakistan...
Edited on Mon Jul-23-07 05:21 PM by MilesColtrane
...it's bye-bye Pervez.

Half of Musharraf's security force would turn on him, and the other half would take a cigarrette break as the angry mob stormed the Presidential palace.

Pakistan would instantly become the first long-feared nuclear Islamic Republic, beating Iran by years.

The problem with having your very own dictator is that you have to make him look independent, or he gets drawn and quartered by his subjects.

7. Al-Qaeda threatens to escalate attacks in North Africa
AQ will just expand into Africa if it get tough along the Afghan border;

DUBAI (AFP) - Al-Qaeda threatened in an Internet statement on Monday to escalate attacks against the "enemies of Allah" in North African countries, warning Muslims to stay away from government sites.

"The Mujahedin (holy warriors)... have many hidden surprises for the enemies of Allah in the countries of the Islamic Maghreb, which will come in an escalating sequence," said the Al-Qaeda Movement in the Islamic Countries of the Maghreb.

10. call should have been made in 2002, without Musharafs permission
I think India would have had our backs as pakistan and India were ready to go at it for a third time over the bombing of the Indian government building.
But
of course, China would have been the wildcard.

Musharraf didn't get active until last year with his own token war in the badlands. It killed over 100 of his own soldiers.

But as for today, how long will the wild card China allow its own citizens to be captured and killed trying to build the new silk road through that roughneck wilderness?
