US has got wrong men, Iraqi families claim
The families of senior Iraqis captured by the US since the fall of Saddam complained last night that their relatives had been wrongly identified as important members of the regime and that some had been tortured while in custody.

In interviews with the Guardian, the families said that their relatives had been held without charge for as long as eight months, and that their only contact with loved ones was through Red Cross letters.

It would be difficult, if not impossible, for them to get a fair trial because the US had refused to allow them to see lawyers, they added. American troops have so far captured or killed 42 of the original "55 most wanted" members of the ousted Iraqi regime - including Saddam Hussein - who were emblazoned by the US on a pack of playing cards. Last night, however, relatives claimed that many of the 55 had not committed atrocities during the Saddam years, while others who were, in fact, to blame had escaped American attention.

blindfolded, handcuffed and keep in a dark room with no light. It was very hot. They tortured them by making them raise their arms in the air for several hours until they fainted." ...screaming sounds coming from the next room...US soldier came in and started to kick the prisoners," he said..."This kind of justice isn't very different from Iraqi justice under Saddam,..."

1. Compassionate conservatism at it's finest hour. Showing those
Muslims just how much think is not a Christian crusade to take over their wealth.

I also heard they were imprisioning women and children and anyone they suspect or any Iraqi suspects of being an "insurgant". This is criminal. This whole Iraqi invasion has been criminal. And all I've heard all through the holidays is how great Bush is and his wonderful clear vision to do this to the rest of the Middle East.

2. They seize the families of resistance fighters for "interrogation"

with the aim of "pressuring" the resistance fighters to turn themselves in in the hopes that they will be allowed to take the place of their children in the "interrogation chamber"

3. Will the US be charged with war crimes or crimes against humanity?
We deserve to be.

4. Well, where else will graduates of School of the Americas train?
America's very own teach-them-to-torture academy, at your service.

:wtf:

5. I'm sure the family of Charles Manson said the same thing
"He is innocent. You have the wrong guy!"

7. Not like Manson - No due process
means they can imprison people as long as they care to.

With respect, I have to point out that your comparison is completely invalid.

Manson had a trial, evidence was presented, and his peers found him guilty.

None of that is happening to these folks.

Here's a taste of the concentration camps we're running in Iraq (no Zyklon B of course, so I only use that phrase to incite outrage among my fellow evilDUers).

Please read the whole article. Kathy Kelley (Voices In the Wilderness) knows from whence she speaks.

"It was inhuman, the way they treated us," said Fadi. "For the first seven days we were given no food or water." On the first day, they were handcuffed and taken to the Hasan Al Bakr Palace where they stayed overnight on wet ground, outdoors. "We tried to bury ourselves in the sand to keep warmer," Fadi recalled. "All the time they were pointing their guns at us. They made us feel that we are going to die now, they gonna kill us now." The next day they were taken to Saddam Airport where they were again held outside, in the cold, without food. "They were laughing while they were searching us and throwing us on the ground. They took pictures of us which they said they would send back to their families in the US."

8. Actually, the US military is behaving like the Waffen SS
and many Americans are as deluded as the Third Reich Germans.

6. A larger problem may be the thousands of Iraqi families just trying
to find out what has happened to their family members after being arrested by the US troops. The US says it has more than 7,400 prisoners, 600 or so who are "security prisoners." http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/World/Iraq/2003/12/28/298925-ap.html
