Bush criticises talk of US strike on Pakistan-govt
Source: Reuters

ISLAMABAD, Aug 3 (Reuters) - U.S. President George W. Bush on Friday described the prospect of U.S. strikes against al Qaeda in Pakistan as "unsavoury", saying Washington respected its ally's sovereignty, the Pakistani government said.

Bush made the comments to Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf in a telephone call to congratulate Pakistanis ahead of the 60th anniversary of their independence on Aug. 14.

Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama said this week that the United States must be willing to strike al Qaeda targets inside Pakistan.

A Pakistani foreign ministry statement said: "President Bush stated that the United States fully respected Pakistan's sovereignty and appreciated Pakistan's resolve in fighting al Qaeda and other terrorist elements.

11. I prefer the directness of your question.
But I would also enjoy hearing: "How would you respond to critics who claim that you have your own, personal reasons for not pursuing Osama Bin Laden?

5. NO! We discussed this last week
and have made statements the are consistent with todays announcement. We were for it before we were against it and that is our policy and we make no apologies. Bring Em On (or not) The way forward is the way we say it is.

Oh praise the son of God, George, he is all wise and we are but mere sputum in his eyes. Save us, save us save us George.

6. He didn't actually say he was against it
He just called it unsavory. It is the kind of weasel speak he is well practiced at.

7. Bush's own people said we would attack inside Pakistan
Top Pentagon and State Department officials said Wednesday that U.S. special forces would enter Pakistan if they had specific intelligence about an impending terrorist strike against the United States.

And the U.S. has already attacked Pakistan:

Pakistani security officials now say several terrorist operatives were killed in a U.S. airstrike that claimed 18 lives last week. But the attack missed al Qaeda's second-in-command, Ayman al-Zawahri -- and the outcome illustrates the difficulty of tracking down al Qaeda leaders.

8. Oh no, we wouldn't want to do anything "unsavoury"
like actually go after the people who attacked us on 9/11. It's much better to go invade random countries that had nothing to do with 9/11 and were no threat to us. That's much more savoury.

10. hold on. . .let's rewind six years or so
remember this little gem?

"I've directed the full resources of our intelligence and law enforcement communities to find those responsible and to bring them to justice. We will make no distinction between the terrorists who committed these acts and those who harbor them."

12. Here's what Obama and ALL DEMS SHOULD SAY
"After committing the biggest foreign policy disaster in US history, the fact that George Bush is giving advice must be some kind of bad joke"
