Iowa straw poll tests 2008 GOP contenders

AMES, Iowa - Republican presidential contender Mitt Romney and a handful of lesser-known rivals hunted for votes in Iowa on Saturday at an informal straw poll that offered the first big test of the 2008 White House race.

Iowa Republicans began lining up at mid-morning to vote in the nonbinding mock election, with Romney an overwhelming favorite to win and several candidates slugging it out for a second-place finish they hope will vault them into contention.

I hope he wins and picks up momentum. He is my favorite candidate because he will be the easiest to defeat.

When I first heard him speak, I laughed because of how easy Carter's reelection would be.

Then the press fawning got going, including their absurd calling him the Great Communicator, and we know the rest.

3. The right may see many of his views

now and think he is great...but I know for a fact that many Christians will NOT vote for a Mormon. I am friends with a number of people at my wife's church (she's a choir director) including the pastor. They are mostly moderates politically and Christians. We chatted last night over some brews and four of them said they would NOT vote for a Mormon. If they won't, a hard-core religious righty certainly will not.

6. Unfortunately, I disagree. The first time I

saw/heard him, I thought this guy is the one we need to fear... I truly believe he'll be worse than bush. They'll vote for him because he's supposedly good looking, religious, family man, etc... they're so easy to fool & so predictable.

He's smart and a quick study, a first rate political opportunist. He'll say anything to get elected. And probably will.

Mittens is perhaps the biggest dipsh*t they have in the GOP. Watch this clip of him interupting Ron Paul to make a totally moronic point if you don't believe me. I slaped my forehead is disbelief when I saw this. At least when Rudy cut in, he had somewhat of a point to make even if he was wrong and missing the point.
