GQ magazine ranks Leahy 18th most powerful person in Washington

Associated Press - August 15, 2007 11:15 AM ET

MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - GQ magazine says Vermont Senator Patrick Leahy is the 18th most powerful person in Washington.

The magazine says Leahy and Representative Henry Waxman, both Democrats, are tied for 18th. The magazine says Leahy and Waxman are demanding accountability of people who have grown accustomed to skirting it.

The magazine says Leahy and Waxman have launched hearings into every scandal, including the Valerie Plame leak, the CIAs overseas prisons, the Jack Abramoff affair, FEMA's response to Katrina, and the U.S. Attorney firings.

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice tops the list as the most powerful person in Washington, and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is second.

6. #9--Rove--is gone, #13 is dead, #14 is Russert--and about #20
Edited on Wed Aug-15-07 03:53 PM by Lobster Martini
How weird is it that Reagan has been out of office since 1989, dead for three years, yet edges out Russert--although I can see Russert being less meaningful than a corpse, so maybe this list isn't totally wrong...Obama being #20, on the other hand beats Bob Woodward and Smokin' Joe Lieberman and #30 and #32...at this point, Lieberman is less relevant than a coat hanger, unless you're a coat...
