GOP Chairman (Bill Thomas) to Address Partisan Clash
http://www.guardian.co.uk/uslatest/story/0,1282,-2941291,00.html

WASHINGTON (AP) - California Rep. Bill Thomas, a
powerful committee chairman, intends to speak
on the House floor on Wednesday about his role
in last week's partisan fracas, and several fellow
Republicans said they hoped he would express
contrition.

``I think he realizes he's got to control his
temper,'' a Republican lawmaker said Tuesday,
one of several who had been involved in private
discussions in the aftermath of last week's clash.

Two GOP lawmakers said the Californian displayed
remorse in one meeting during the day. They
quoted him as saying he realized he had been a
hindrance to passage of Republican legislation,
and regretted it.

All the Republicans spoke on condition of
anonymity.

3. Unctious, pretentious, arrogant, condescending sleazebag.
Thomas is a corrupt, arrogant, fascist fart. He, along with Knollenburg and Hayworth and MacInnes, resemble creatures usually found on the underside of rocks or other dark, dank places. But enough of the focus on their more positive attributes.

The Ways and Means Committee of the House is the most rabidly partisan of all House committees. It has been for many years, only contending with the Rules Committee for the prize of least populist in a race to the bottom of the septic sewage infesting DC. Most notable in this article is the purported reason Thomas "displayed remorse"; that his behavior may have slightly hindered the GOP's rapacious onslaught. It's not about ethics, principle, democracy, duty, or honor. It's about serving the oligarchy. :puke:

4. The only contrition I'll accept is a resignation
That isn't going to happen. The only reason he's doing this is because of the bad publicity, his fascism was showing.

"he had been a hindrance to passage of Republican legislation" Note that he doesn't care that he violated House rules or acted like a thug calling in the police. He's only sorry about not falling in lock step with the repuke regime and possibly hindering their corporate agenda. Mustn't call attention to the party that's stealing us blind and establishing the dictatorship. Bad boy Bill!

(snip)
In a letter to all House members Tuesday, Rep. Charles Rangel of New York, the senior Democrat on the committee, wrote that ``never before in our time in Congress have we seen such a blatant abuse of power by a committee chairman.''
(/snip)

Unfortunately Rep. Rangel this is just the tip of the iceberg, the real blatant abuse of power goes on every day without any checks or balances and it will continue unchecked until this regime gets the boot.

6. Is job may be at risk
Apparently, some GOP congressmen thought that he acted so badly that he could be gone as chaiman. It is unlikely but Hastert didn't like what happened on Friday and might just replace him with someone who less prone to these controversies.
