Official death toll of Aug. 1 collapse is 13; Bush to visit Minneapolis Tuesday

MINNEAPOLIS - The remains of the last person missing after a bridge collapsed into the Mississippi River nearly three weeks ago have been found, authorities said Monday, bringing the official death toll to 13 and relief to the only family still awaiting word on a missing loved one.

Gregory Jolstad, nicknamed "Jolly," was on the construction crew that was resurfacing the bridge when it fell Aug. 1 during the evening rush hour. Jolstad, 45, was driving a skid loader, commonly known by the brand name Bobcat.

Divers had gone back in the water early Monday, and Jolstad's wife, Lisa Jolstad, had said officials vowed to continue until they found her husband.

The recovery, announced by the Hennepin County medical examiner, ends the search for bodies and allows construction crews to proceed with removing the collapsed pieces of the bridge.

4. Well, it's a terrible thing, but as you say
in a way it is good news. At least his wife and others who loved him can put his body to rest and move on. A part of me has always wondered why that matters, but a greater part of me knows that it does.

3. Will They EVER Hold People Accountable?
I for one am curious as to what operation was really going on with that bridge. Also, why were they allowing traffic, especially if they were using jackhammers, etc.

From the beginning, it made no sense to me. Rush Hour, Jackhammers. Stupidity.

But I'm sure they'll find some scapegoats, but not the IDIOTS who are likely the ones responsible for what was actually occuring construction wise on the bridge that afternoon.

6. I think the truth is bound to come out. It already has. It's going to get
real ugly between Stickler and the jackass who owns the mine there. This was untenable because no one ever called them on their safety measures, and this, meaning dead people, are the result. Something's gotta give.

5. My heart goes out to all the families of the victims.
I can't say that I'm "happy" for them. I'm not. There is no happiness here. but I'm sure the recovery of their loved one's body is very helpful to their grieving process. I wish them all well.
