Vatican plans flights to shrines
Source: BBC

The Vatican is to launch a low-cost charter flight service to transport pilgrims to holy sites worldwide.

The inaugural flight on 27 August will go from Rome to Lourdes in France.

A small Italian airline, Mistral, will provide the planes, with the interiors decorated with sacred inscriptions such as: "I search for your face, Lord."

The BBC's David Willey in Rome says religious tourism is already big business, with some 200 million Christian pilgrims expected to visit holy places in different parts of the world this year.

Well, I hope a new airport in Rome is not planned. The two already existing are a mess...

Anyway, I'm still with Spinoza and his Deus sive Natura: the "face of God" is not to be searched further than the closest beautiful garden flower. But this is quite another story.

If one likes to travel, that's a good thing...

1. The Italian government is looking for a buyer for Alitalia
Perhaps the Roman Catholic Church could buy it and rename it Vaticair. They could re-decorate the planes to resemble churches and priests flying with tour groups could say mass. Get a couple of groups together and you could have your very own novena. Don't even get me started on the drinks selections.

5. you're on to something!
"Don't even get me started on the drinks selections."

Water or wine? The inflight meals will be limited to loaves and fishes, but you'll never have to worry about them running out!

6. Oh, I was thinking odder than that
Bloody Marys, Virgin Marys, Sangre d'Christo (blood of Christ) wine (really good red wine from the Mt. Vesuvius region), Lachrima Christi (tears of Christ) white wine. It's what comes of being a recovering Catholic.

7. Ooh, wonderful -- get a cheap flight to someplace near where one wants to visit.
Just don't get into a religious argument until already on the flight home.

;-)
