Bush Concerned About Hurricane Victims
Source: The Guardian

MONTEBELLO, Quebec (AP) - President Bush, at a North American summit on Tuesday, offered U.S. assistance and expressed his concern for the citizens of Mexico and elsewhere whose lives were effected by Hurricane Dean.

``We stand ready to help,'' said Bush, standing alongside Mexican President Felipe Calderon and Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper. ``The American people care a lot about the human condition in our neighborhood and when we see human suffering we want to do what we can.''

Edited on Wed Aug-22-07 01:24 PM by Dulcinea
Unlike some people we could name!

-snip-

Overshadowing the two-day event was the menacing Hurricane Dean. The summit schedule was rearranged to accommodate Calderon, who was to head home early to deal with the aftermath of Dean.

24. Bushler must be quite the conscienceless monster to say that
after Katrina and most especially after the Bushies disappeared 3,400 dead African-Americans to keep the Katrina Death Toll lower than the 9/11 Death Toll.

But then, we have seen him react to an election loss by "punishing" the nation and sending more soldiers to their needless deaths.

He IS a monster of the Marcos-level, and a liar of the Hitler-level.

30. I wasn't going to read this post...
... but I did it against my better judgement and I'm so sorry I did. One of my dearest friends (she was only 43 years old) literally ended up worrying herself to death last year trying to figure out how to make ends meet for herself, her husband, and her immediate family (none of them poverty level, but they couldn't afford healthcare insurance, let alone insurance to cover their stuff) after they lost their homes and just about everything because of Katrina.

She was the kindest, most giving person I've ever met. She had to use room temperature insulin because they had no power and only enough fuel to run a generator twice a day for about a half hour at a time only so they could turn the TV on to see just WHEN the fucking promised help would arrive! That was three fucking WEEKS after the storm hit. (Yes, yes... that is a huge run-on sentence, I know.)

I'm so angry all over again, after reading more of this asshole's bullshit, that I could vomit. I apologize for the profanity, but I apparently don't have the mental capacity anymore to figure out how this man is allowed to still live and breathe.

I must now go get some tissues and try to stop crying (I cry when I get pissed, which of course makes me more pissed that I let this get me so riled up once again... LOL), get a big bowl of peach cobbler I made this afternoon, and just wallow in my anger. Hubby forgot to pick ice cream up on the way home to go with the cobbler. That might have soothed me enough so that I won't go to bed and grind my teeth all night. Oh well, I wonder if there's still a tub of Cool Whip hidden under a bag of french fries in the big freezer in the basement? That might do the trick! Keep your fingers crossed for me... *sigh*

I sincerely appreciate the hug. I DID find the Cool Whip last night and I'm back to normal, whatever that is... LOL!

It's been a while since I've posted on DU. I always come by and read, but things have been so discouraging lately. I have recently received my local League of Women Voters group information and am committed to putting some of this crappy, negative energy into a positive direction.

Again, thank you for your kindness. :)

43. I'm so sorry, vard28 ...

She sounds like a wonderful person. It makes me furious when politicians like Bush totally deny that the stress caused by their inept decisions can sicken and even kill people. (The attitude seems to be that "oh it's only their imaginations", and that those who worry about this either are "negative" or somehow "ungrateful for all the help".)

44. Thank you as well...
You are quite right about how some of these poor souls are perceived. I'm sure there are plenty of other forgotten people that have just run out of hope. Our bodies, minds, and spirits can only handle so much.

For years before the storm, my friend worked to help underprivileged children and elderly folks. There wasn't a kinder person on this earth that I've ever known. She always gave to others, family and strangers, and then do without for herself. She was a great animal lover as well. Not to mention the friendship and love of her friends and relatives. She never tooted her own horn, and would fuss at me for sayin' all these things about her if she was here. I am blessed to have had a friend like her in my life, and I dearly miss her.

My heart aches for everyone who has suffered from that storm and the lack of help for them, even to this day. I saw part of a blurb on TV yesterday (I think Ann Curry on NBC was doin' it) about Brad Pitt helping to rebuild green, AFFORDABLE, NICE housing in Louisiana. Not sure how much attention it's going to get, but I did hear him say something about this issue needing to be everyone's business for the upcoming elections.

It bugs me that this deliberate neglect hasn't been a screaming headline every night and that some people have to swoon and drool over celebrities before they notice what the hell is going on with other folks in this country, but in this instance I don't care. At this point just about anything that draws attention, and eventually ends up helping, is okay with me.

I appreciate your kind words and taking the time to write them.

:)

The royal we (Pluralis Majestatis) is the first-person plural pronoun when used by an important personage to refer to himself or herself. It's best known usage is by a monarch such as a king, queen, or pope.
