AN FRANCISCO (Map, News) - A federal judge Tuesday ordered the Bush administration to issue two scientific reports on global warming, siding with environmentalists who sued the White House for failing to produce the documents.

U.S. District Court Judge Saundra Armstrong ruled that the Bush administration had violated a 1990 law when it failed to meet deadlines for an updated U.S. climate change research plan and impact assessment.

The administration had claimed that it had discretion over how and when it produced the reports - an argument the judge rejected Tuesday.

"It's a huge victory holding the administration accountable for its attempts to suppress science," said Kassie Siegel, an attorney for the Center for Biological Diversity, one of the plaintiffs that filed suit in Oakland federal court in November.

This administration has green-washed itself to death.

Global warming is the #1 threat faced by the world, and Bush has done worse than just let us down, he's sided with the enemy.

3. This ruling is invalid
Because acts of Congress are just advisory, not binding on the Executive.

That's under the new version of the Constitution, which was put in place recently, but we can't tell you when or how, and we can't let you see a copy of it.

4. Does anybody else see something morally bankrupt about this?
The Executive branch is the branch that determines the direction the goverment will take: tyrannical or benign. It can actually politicize scientific fact and harm the public interest? Do any of you want to be a citizen of that country if you know that a bad leader can actually poison your kids so that his wealthy cronies can continue to make money? What is this bullshit that the only way to stop a president who is intentionally harming us is to wait from election to election? What bullshit is that? That's insanity. That's irrational.

6. Bush must release global warming reports
Source: The Associated Press - Houston Chronicle

A federal judge ordered the Bush administration to issue two scientific reports on global warming, siding with environmentalists who sued the White House for failing to produce the documents.

U.S. District Court Judge Saundra Armstrong ruled Tuesday that the Bush administration had violated a 1990 law when it failed to meet deadlines for an updated U.S. climate change research plan and impact assessment.

Armstrong set a March 1 deadline for the administration to issue the research plan, which is meant to guide federal research on climate change. Federal law calls for an updated plan every three years, she said. The last one was issued in 2003.

The judge set a May 31 deadline to produce a national assessment containing the most recent scientific data on global warming and its projected effects on the country's environment, economy and public health. The government is required to complete a national assessment every four years, the judge ruled.

The last one was issued by the Clinton administration in 2000.

The administration had claimed that it had discretion over how and when it produced the reports — an argument the judge rejected Tuesday.

"The defendants are wrong," Armstrong wrote

12. I agree, lovuian, I believe when the American People
feel the full effect of global warming climate change, Iraq will seem as a skirmish and no one will be able to say his name with out spitting first. It will be the catastrophe of global warming climate change that will solidify Bush's standing as the worst President of all time, centuries from now, should there be anyone left alive.

I don't see any other way around it, if there is any sliver of a doubt that 9/11 happened due to his negligence, if there was ever one iota of belief that the miserable response to Katrina was not entirely his fault, then his total disdain of and abandonment of his responsibility to the entire American Nation's well being, not to mention the rest of Earth will seal the deal. Not only negligence to act in the face of overwhelming evidence, but the actual suppression of this vital and critical global life and death determining information. I literally see the deaths of billions of people, if anyone can name another tyrant from history with that much blood on their hands, please tell me who it is?

presidency. A presidency of lies and deceit.

14. Why give such a far-away deadline?
From the linked article:

The judge set a May 31 deadline to produce a national assessment containing the most recent scientific data on global warming and its projected effects on the country's environment, economy and public health. The government is required to complete a national assessment every four years, the judge ruled. The last one was issued by the Clinton administration in 2000.

Doesn't the EPA have original (unedited) climate reports? Why not just remove the edits and release them immediately?

I don't subscribe to the idea that the Democratic Congress is a total failure, as many around here do.

20. There is very black humor in this administration
treating the judiciary w/ contempt, while it was the very same 'activist' judges they bemoan that allowed them to complete their coup under a semblance of legality.
