Pavarotti reportedly in ‘very serious condition’
Source: MSNBC.com

ROME - Luciano Pavarotti’s health has deteriorated and the 71-year-old singer is in a “very serious condition,” Italy’s AGI news agency reported on Wednesday, citing unnamed sources.

Pavarotti, who was released from a hospital Aug. 25 after undergoing more than two weeks of tests and treatment, was being attended to at home by cancer specialists, AGI said.

Pavarotti underwent surgery in July 2006 in a New York hospital for pancreatic cancer. It is one of the most dangerous forms of the disease, though doctors said the surgery offered improved hopes for survival.

At the time of the operation, Pavarotti had been preparing to resume his farewell tour. He has made no public appearances since then.

This will be a terrible loss to the world. One of the most beautiful and moving voices of my lifetime.

1. my prayers are with him and his family--and lovers of music everywhere. I had the extreme pleasure
of seeing him perform in Reno years ago, and got to meet him afterwards. I will always treasure that evening. People had flown in from all over the world to hear him.

15. I kissed him once
Edited on Wed Sep-05-07 06:48 PM by wryter2000
At an autographing session. Somewhere I found the chutzpah to walk behind him and pose with my hands on his shoulders. When I looked down, he was puckered up and begging for it. :) Nice kisser.

On edit: My hubby snapped a picture, and I have it in the living room.

What a sweet man and an amazing voice. The world will be poorer without him.

Pancreatic cancer is gawd-awful. I've know two people who died of it. I'm surprised he's lasted as long as he has.

3. Damn.. I'm tearing up just at the thought...
I'd missed that he'd been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Damn, damn, damn. Wow, that voice... How anyone can hear him sing his most famous arias and not tear up, I can not imagine.

4. The voice of dreams. I have heard him in person twice...rare pleasure!
His cd of La Boheme is magical. The several of the Three Tenors are such fun. I hope this is something that he can survive.

18. In his prime he was one of the finest tenors ever.
Truly to be a sad loss for all of us.

What is it about opera singers lately?

Beverly Sills, Jerry Hadley, Regine Crespin, all in the last few months.
