<snip>

"The Chairman of the St. Petersburg City Council took his own life Friday hours after he resigned amid allegations he sexually abused his three adopted daughters, authorities said.

The Citrus County Sheriff's Office said deputies were called to Bryan's residence on Gobbler Drive in Floral City after a his body was found inside a detached garage, slumped over a golf cart.

"Near him were a riding lawn mower that was still running, and two 4-wheelers that apparently had run out of gas," said Sheriff's spokesperson Gail Tierney. "A note was found inside the residence."

He was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics."

Cross-over endorsements in HD 52

"In what may be Florida's most competitive swing state House District, 52 now represented by Frank Farkas, both Democrat Bill Heller and Republican Angelo Cappelli are touting support from the opposing party. Cappelli has a new mailer including glowing comments from Pinellas teacher Sally Baynard, a "lifelong registered Democrat" whose father Bob Pfeiffer was "Mr. Green Devil at St. Pete High."

Heller's mailing includes endorsements from some prominent Pinellas Republicans: County Commissioners Ronnie Duncan and Susan Latvala, Pinellas Park Mayor Bill Mischler, and St Pete council members John Bryan and Leslie Curran."

3. In the end, he did the right thing.
if only he had considered this solution earlier, three women would have a better chance at leading a normal life.

Rest in Peace, Chairman.

8. John Bryan assisted by (Gov) Charlie Crist et al REPUBLICANS
Bryan long held political ambitions
Aaron Sharockman writes for Saturday's St. Petersburg Times:
ST. PETERSBURG -- John Bryan's political ambitions were never a secret.

When City Council members picked Bill Foster over Bryan for a vacant council seat in 1998, he moved to a new district so he could try again.

Three years later, Bryan built a formidable team that included help from Charlie Crist and GOP heavyweight Mel Sembler, as well as two former mayors.

He was elected that year and easily won re-election in 2005.

Many speculated that a run for mayor was next.

Now, Bryan's death throws the already shifting makeup of the City Council into further uncertainty.

With four of the eight council seats up for election in the fall, and a primary scheduled Tuesday, council members must also fill Bryan's seat in District 2.

St. Petersburg officials removed Bryan’s image and biography from the city’s Web site late Friday.

Under an empty picture of District 2, it simply said "vacant."

However check out the screen names of the twisted retards at the end. I diss all republicans there specifically by their screen name in bold type. Why not?

Rather bold of Coyote, no?

15. Scandal and suicide on St. Pete City Council
Source: St. Petersburg Times

ST. PETERSBURG - City Council Chairman John Bryan walked into City Hall just after 1 p.m. Friday and handed in his resignation letter.

Less than five hours later, he was slumped over in a golf cart in the garage of his Floral City house, dead from carbon monoxide poisoning. He was 56.

Bryan's suicide came after news spread Friday that authorities were investigating allegations that he had sexually abused three girls, including two of his adopted daughters, ages 12 and 15. Ron Stuart, a spokesman for the Pinellas-Pasco Circuit Court, said the third alleged victim was a nanny for Bryan years ago and no longer lives in the area....

snip

A staunch Republican and former finance chairman for U.S. Sen. Connie Mack, Bryan helped push Baker's agenda through the City Council.

18. A Dade county police officer committed suicide for the same reason
he molested his daughters and when confronted committed suicide at a nearby airport...he used to boast of meeting bush when he drove escort, yeah Ray I hope you rot in hell...another lifelong repuke. I know party affiliation and molesters have no direct correlation but to me it seems that these base impulses stem from some a selfishness that fits the conservative republican mindset.

19. Am I the only one who finds this incredibly sad?
Edited on Sat Sep-08-07 08:42 AM by zanne
I think it's sad that his "inner demons" or whatever it is that caused him to be that way drove him to suicide. What he did to his adopted daughters was despicable; his hypocrisy is obvious. I still think it's sad.

20. Mark Foley and John Bryan connection maybe

I wonder if John Bryan had any conection to Mark Foley. They both like kids and associated with childrens organizations.

Bryan was active in the local foster care system. He was co-chairman of the Stakeholder's Group, a local board that provides direction to the foster care system. He also served on a Pinellas-Pasco board of the Sarasota YMCA, which oversees foster care services in the two counties.

23. Won't shed a lot of tears for him
For his family, yes. But since he would have gone to prison for his actions had he not taken this way out, I don't have much sympathy for the man himself. What a monster. He did it to get away with what he did and not face justice.

I live nearby, and it's pretty surprising that it could be done 'right under our noses' by someone on the city council. I hope the city is able to replace him soon, and move on.

26. Win win situation.
If he hadn't offed himself, we'd have to investigate, hold trials, IF he was found guilty we'd incarcerate him, feed him, etc. And then, back on the street. This way, he gets to leave on his own terms, we're rid of scum, and save money. What's not to like? I only wish more of these bastards would follow the lead. Hell, I'll donate the bullets.

There's some sister of a guy who shot himself after being investigated on that show 'To Catch a Predator' that's suing the show for causing his death. Total crock. Your brother deserved everything and more, and thank god for the show.
